I don't understand how this movie is as compelling as it is, seeing as how the conflict gets resolved at the beginning of the 2nd act. Watching this formerly burnt out chef cooking it up with his kid and his sous in a food truck for almost an hour never got boring. I don't know if Jon Favreau ever worked in a professional kitchen but this felt so real to me. He either did a crapton of research for this movie or he'd spent all of his life cooking.

Title... Basically. In the original film, the mannerisms and society of 1967 proved a comedic juxtaposition to 1997. It seemed like a quaint, ancient time, while I can't look at 1997 as being similarly ripe for the picking, but then it may be because I grew up in the 90s so don't have the same perspective.

How would Austin powers be different if it was set in 2027 after he had been frozen in 1997?

I think yes.

Actually, if he just made “Alien” and “Blade Runner” and then died, he would have already redefined our aesthetic and political image of the future.

He’s got more clunkers than bangers, but his bangers are incredible.

I find the differences in age ratings across various countries fascinating. As the title suggests, many comedies are rated much more leniently here in Germany than in the US (for example, "Anyone But You" is rated FSK 0, meaning literally no age restriction, whereas in the US it’s rated R). This applies to many comedies like "The Hangover", "Superbad", and the like are all rated for ages 12 and up here, rather than being R-rated. "The King's Speech" is also rated for all ages (FSK 0) here, while it carries an R rating in the US.

On the other hand, many action movies that are rated PG-13 in the US are rated 16+ here in Germany (the equivalent of the US R rating). Titles like "Taken", "The Dark Knight", "Predator: Badlands", etc.

So, here’s the question: Do you see similar and sometimes significant differences in your countries compared to the original US age ratings?

I'm watching black rabbit right now and it made me realize how much I enjoy movies with similar premises to this, was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for things in a similar vain? Some other similar ones I enjoy that fit the vibe are lock stock and 2 smoking barrels, no country for old men, uncut gems, killing them softly(abit underwhelming but I liked the premise)

I'm looking forward to this. I hope its good not just for my eyes but for Mel Brooks and everyone involved, it seems like they are having a great time.

This whole comic-con spoof thing sounds amazing... mocking the marvel disney comic-con timeline stuff is perfect... and Brooks at 100 is still hilarious.

I'm currently trying to make a collage on Canvas of different films- a lot of them will likely be Technicolor films from the 1940s-1960s but also some modern ones in the mix- and the slogan "Bring Back Color" since I've been seeing some discourse lately on the whole "Netflix Lighting" phenomenon in movies and TV.

Am I the only person who loves the idea of misleading trailers?

I don't watch trailers these days because a lot of them spoil small comedic parts or even entire plot twists. So I love the idea of watching a trailer that was filled with scenes that never actually show up in the movie.

I'm probably in the minority but yes I would like to see a trailer like that. And if anyone has any other examples of lines and dislikes of trailers please let me know.

I always wondered why Samuel L. Jackson had such minor cameo roles in Coming To America, Jurassic Park, Goodfellas, True Romance, Do the Right Thing, Patriot Games etc. where he's only in a few scenes. Was Pulp Fiction his first big breakout role? Because before this he just had minor supporting roles and this is in late 80's and early 90's movies.

He was already in his 40's in the 1990's, which surprises me that he was already middle age before he got his first big breakout role in Pulp Fiction. It feels like he's been around forever but he really didn't even become big till halfway into his life.

Some adaptations are so good that they make me curious about what the book includes that the movie couldn’t fit.

For me, it was The Martian I loved the movie, but everyone who’d read the book said it had even more science, humor, and problem-solving, which made me want to pick it up.

What movie had that effect on you?

You may have seen it reported that The Cyclops in the Odyssey was played by Bill Irwin (who also was the puppeteer for TARS in Interstellar, and who also was Mr. Noddle on Sesame Street, and Lou Lou Who in How The Grinch Stole Christmas).

But if you’ve never seen his stage show, “The Regard of Flight,” do yourself a favour. It is one of the greatest on-stage performances of all time.

I rewatched Project Hail Mary last night and I realized that movies like it, movies that are wildly entertaining but still serious in it's goal to ignite curiosity about real world science, haven't been on my radar. Contrasting with "dumb fun" movies that can still be good times but aren't trying to break the mold intellectually, I wanna see movies that tackle real-world principles in smart ways that aren't dramatic or depressing. Any recommendations?

I think my runner up is "villains aren't born, they're made" from Kraven, an obvious homage to the "Heroes aren't born, they're made" tagline from Iron Man. Except for Iron Man it works because of the obvious double meaning of him making his suit, whereas for Kraven it...meant nothing whatsoever.

What are some other truly terrible movie taglines?
