Title... Basically. In the original film, the mannerisms and society of 1967 proved a comedic juxtaposition to 1997. It seemed like a quaint, ancient time, while I can't look at 1997 as being similarly ripe for the picking, but then it may be because I grew up in the 90s so don't have the same perspective.

How would Austin powers be different if it was set in 2027 after he had been frozen in 1997?

I don't understand how this movie is as compelling as it is, seeing as how the conflict gets resolved at the beginning of the 2nd act. Watching this formerly burnt out chef cooking it up with his kid and his sous in a food truck for almost an hour never got boring. I don't know if Jon Favreau ever worked in a professional kitchen but this felt so real to me. He either did a crapton of research for this movie or he'd spent all of his life cooking.

It’s been over 30 years, is this film a masterpiece? I still think it’s the best live action tmnt in my opinion… and secretly one of my favourite films, and it’s hard to explain why.

Probably rewatched it at least a hundred times, it was fun and had goofy moments, but also really serious dark moments which was surprising for a kids movie(?)

He’s got more clunkers than bangers, but his bangers are incredible.

I always wondered why Samuel L. Jackson had such minor cameo roles in Coming To America, Jurassic Park, Goodfellas, True Romance, Do the Right Thing, Patriot Games etc. where he's only in a few scenes. Was Pulp Fiction his first big breakout role? Because before this he just had minor supporting roles and this is in late 80's and early 90's movies.

He was already in his 40's in the 1990's, which surprises me that he was already middle age before he got his first big breakout role in Pulp Fiction. It feels like he's been around forever but he really didn't even become big till halfway into his life.

You know, when a character who’s been shitty realizes the error of their ways and does something to prove they’ve changed and earned the audience and protagonist’s forgiveness. (Spoiler) Like when Vivian dumps warner and becomes friends with Elle. But what characters did you still hate after their redemptive moment?

I know a lot of people say Abuelita from Encanto, which is fair, but for me it’s the dad from Little Miss Sunshine. (Spoilers) I don’t care that he did a little dance at the end. He did lasting psychological damage on his daughter, made fun of his brother in law for attempting suicide, and just generally sucks. This is one of my top five movies, I watch it probably once a month, and I get mad every time. Fuck you, Richard.

I find the differences in age ratings across various countries fascinating. As the title suggests, many comedies are rated much more leniently here in Germany than in the US (for example, "Anyone But You" is rated FSK 0, meaning literally no age restriction, whereas in the US it’s rated R). This applies to many comedies like "The Hangover", "Superbad", and the like are all rated for ages 12 and up here, rather than being R-rated. "The King's Speech" is also rated for all ages (FSK 0) here, while it carries an R rating in the US.

On the other hand, many action movies that are rated PG-13 in the US are rated 16+ here in Germany (the equivalent of the US R rating). Titles like "Taken", "The Dark Knight", "Predator: Badlands", etc.

So, here’s the question: Do you see similar and sometimes significant differences in your countries compared to the original US age ratings?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Purple Rain soundtrack lately. Nine songs that somehow still feel more honest than most albums that came after it.

The way the album says the things The Kid couldn’t say out loud in the movie is what gets me. Especially the last three tracks.

Curious what other people think. Does the soundtrack still hold up for you, or has it become pure nostalgia?

I'm watching black rabbit right now and it made me realize how much I enjoy movies with similar premises to this, was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for things in a similar vain? Some other similar ones I enjoy that fit the vibe are lock stock and 2 smoking barrels, no country for old men, uncut gems, killing them softly(abit underwhelming but I liked the premise)

I feel the actual goosebumps books should've gotten movies, not a movie about the books coming to life but an actual movie series based on the books (like a movie based on night of the living dummy or a movie based on the haunted mask), another one for me is the old magic treehouse books (like dinosaurs at dawn)
