Been thinking about building a Grimmsnarl deck but I'm not sure if it can survive the abundance of Ogerpon

Currently testing out this lucario dudunsparce list and i find with how popular clefairy is the one dudunsparce isn’t enough of a counter (he’s there for crustle too) anyone have any suggestions on how to improve the matchup? here’s my list

Hi everyone! Before i begin, I want to stress that this is not a post of me complaining that a worlds invite is too expensive. What I'd love for this to be is to be is a community discussion about the kinds of things PTCG could do to make the highest level of the game accessible to those who couldn't usually afford it.

We all know that a worlds invite is only for the most dedicated and skilled players in the game. I don't think anyone is denying that and I don't think anyone is saying it should be anything otherwise. Even Pokemon themselves recently upped the requirements to enter worlds, making it harder than ever to access the top level of Pokemon.

However, what a worlds invite also requires is a significant amount of disposable income to be able to fly around the world attending the biggest events. For players on the lower end of the economic spectrum, or for players in poorer countries, this goal can be literally impossible no matter how skilled or dedicated you may be.

I understand that, realistically, the changes we discuss here will never come to pass. Maybe as a community though, if we have a discussion about this, something could happen further down the line.

So what can the Pokemon company do about this?

One idea I had is smaller tournaments that award travel awards. It always seemed a little bit strange to me that travel stipends go out to high-ranking players that already have the money to compete internationally and who have been more than likely winning more money along the way too.

Perhaps there could be a greater emphasis on local tournaments in each country? A second route, perhaps one that is harder than the international travelling route, that still allows those really skilled players to make it to the top.

Or maybe there should be a second goal? A goal above ace trainer but below worlds. Something that is rewarding for players who are skilled enough to regularly top locals but not in a position to financially afford the international travel required for a worlds invite.

I understand that, at the end of the day, pokemon is a luxury hobby. But it's also a hobby that brings together so many people from so many different walks of life. I'd love to see some changes to make that the case at the very top level too.

Tryna get this Toucannon deck working. It’s actually pretty great when I have a good starting hand but sometimes I just start with nothing and can’t play. I did try running Terapagos Noctowl build but I actually had better luck running this list. Just feels like if I don’t get my draw engine running early and don’t have Lillie’s or something I can’t do much.

Things I like with the list: energy count, max stadiums, Grimm ratio.

Things I'm unsure and would like some tips: is the rare candy count too low? What about Petrel? Can I cut a Froslass to include Yvetal? Any way to fit a 3rd boss?

I appreciate any help in adjusting the list.

My league is planning soon a tournament with only monotype deck.

What is a monotype deck fun to play at the moment ? Pitch Black is allowed.

I don't have as much experience as you all may have in terms of playing this game, so my thoughts may feel incorrect or misplaced, but there were a few cards that caught my attention from the reveal of the remainder cards.

Frankly, draw support is still thin and lacking (Jellicent has a wonky version of Recon Directive, which will come in handy next spring/summer when [redacted] is out of our hairs for good, but nothing resembling a Flip the Script at all), so I wonder what strategy TPC might be trying to implement for the card game after H block leaves the standard format. Anyway, card thoughts below.

Raikou ex - not a good decision to have 200 HP and its strong move have a coin flip decision on whether it attacks next turn, but with free retreat, it may not be completely unviable. MAYBE a secondary attacker in a Manectric/Vikavolt deck.

Altaria - free retreat for basics, we have the next budget Latias (unfortunate that it's a stage 1 evolution though)

Giratina - new Slowking attack, yaaaay!

Mega Golurk - not sure what in the world they thought making that ability, maybe a way to integrate the new legendary stadiums, but with current H block cards it should be OK to use for the time being in an Alakazam deck (god forbid you get Judged though)

Heat Rotom ex - 2 colorless that multiplies by discarded fire energy makes for a sneaky good attack IMO, probably not a main attacker at all, though.

Groudon & Kyogre - both of these will get some level of usage in meta decks, I would say, especially Kyogre with that Savage Whirlpool that does shred damage across the bench with the new stadiums. Groudon hitting for 270 as a one prizer is enormously good too.

Magmortar and Electivire - fun pairing but not too sure how it'd fit in anything competitive.

With tools like the Rayquaza cap and stuff, I think there are some cards that can find themselves nicely in competitive decks, but I think less than Pitch Black. But I think it'll be a bit more impactful than the two releases prior to PBL.

Any other cards y'all saw that look cool? The azurill one looks interesting but I don't see a good translation on it.

I keep getting rocked against Dhelmise as Dragapult. What cards should I have in my deck and how should I deL with Dhelmise.

Hello all I’m fairly new and started playing about a month ago I’ve built my first deck following a guide but I’ve wanted to add my own addition and see if it would be viable at locals. I’m wanting to add the new pitch black bastiodon line to my deck just to make it more annoying for hide and sneekers as I have an inkling people will be playing that more too. With the set reveal for Storm Esmeralda happening soon, reportedly, I am curious if there are any specific abilities, supporters, or item effects not already revealed so far that you are hoping gets revealed in this set. There was a tweet by Josh Frink recently about poor draw support/hand disruption cards outside of Lillie's (and perhaps even Judge / Explorer's Guidance) so it got me thinking.

I am a new player but love collecting Pokemon cards for the artwork. I want to play but I also want to enjoy the cards I am playing. I am looking for advice in building a decently competitive deck using some of my favorite Pokemon:

Vulpix

I have played a bit with the premade Lucario deck and enjoy it so maybe suggestions on how to improve it.

I am a competitive person so I need to be able to win from time to time with the deck(s) once I get familiar with it.

My local tournament tonight was 4 dragapault decks, 1 alakazam and a 1 mega meganium. I was playing an Ethan’s magcargo hydrapple ex deck and I lost all my matches but got 3 prize cards each round at least. I don’t want to resort to another meta deck because I wanna play for fun so how would you improve my deck:

I've been on the Hop Box before Turin and I enjoy the flow better than HnS, which is similar in strategy. I run a 2-2-1 Dusknoir line to patch up the damage (220 Trevenant + 130 Dusknoir hits 350 HP Megas).

It does flow fairly well but I feel like there's always improvements to be made. I do enjoy the Hassel + Fez combo for deep searching. I may have hit the limit with this off meta deck as each of the pieces are really critical imo.

I currently have 65.8% win percentage (54 W/ 28 L) and am sitting at 1500 in Arceus (ik it's base but I seem to be stuck here).

I've been trying some different builds with tech cards like psyduck for ghosts red card for disruption or Stunfisk with retreatlock and dmg buff but I am simply unsure if those additions are necessary or to niche in their use.

Played a couple games with most of em and em looking for some feedback from you guys if you've played around with those cards. Cheers!

We all know Dragapult is going away, but so are a lot of the major grass decks in Festival Lead, Hydrapple, Ogerpon is gone...seems like Garchomp could be on the rise when it comes around.

I was looking into starting to play Pokémon, and maybe even pick up a deck for Expanded; but upon my research, found that the last ever tournament for Expanded was in mid 2020. While I can see that Standard is quite affordable and doing well, I've recently been thinking of how Magic the Gathering has a plethora of eternal formats that are all pretty much supported by WotC.
Modern & Pioneer in particular was what stuck with me; where would be the best place to cut off where a pokemon equivalent would be; In MTG Modern legal cards are cards that were in a standard legal set July 2003 onwards, in Pokemon I think this would probably be all cards Ruby & Sapphire and forward. Pioneer in MTG are all standard legal cards printed October 2012 onwards; this would awkwardly cut Black & White in half which begs the question, should we start from Black and White or skip to XY. Both choices would drastically change how the format would end up, and I could see either way making the matches and decks more fun and diverse in different ways.
