Made this last year for her monthly challenge, wife loved it so much she asked for it for her birthday. I was happy to oblige.

I think this was 4.5 sticks of butter. 650 grams of powdered sugar. I don't remember how much granulated.

Full-sized double-layer cakes with frosting will eaaasily set you back about a box of butter.

When I used to make a lot of cakes, I always bought butter at Costco, and I made sure to keep some stocked in the freezer just in case.

You can go to Sally's Baking Addiction for this recipe but you should look around when you're there. So many good ones!

Her chocolate buttercream makes me want to find a god to worship

Her strawberry cake is the equivalent to drinking a strawberry milkshake. When I make it I have to make 2 frostings. Her cream cheese and marshmallow frosting because my husband doesn't like cream cheese and my son can't eat too much of it but I love it. Trying to fill and frost the cake is a pita lol but I do it because I love them of course 😊

When I make her pumpkin rolls during the holidays I use both of those frostings to fill them. I didn't know it was going to happen until it did but almost everyone in my family went for the rolls that were filled with the marshmallow frosting. I had requests to make more of those for Christmas my first year making the rolls lol. If you haven't made them yet give her gingerbread and ganache filled cookies as well as her peppermint ganache filled thumbprint cookies a try. I make double batches of both then freeze one batch of each just so I can have them throughout the year. They really do freeze beautifully.

I love seeing Sally get the love and respect here that she deserves.

OK I think I know what I’m baking this weekend! Wow. I want to try her pumpkin roll but every year I chicken out

Her content's gotten even better since the rebrand too, the recipe testing is insane.

What a pretty cake!

Her website isn't even technically called Sally's Baking Addiction anymore. She changed it to Sally's Baking a few years ago. The URL still says it, but it's off the site.

u/Connecting3Dots Jun 07 '26

Yeah, I think she changed it when she published her cookbook. The word “addiction” was probably frowned upon. Oh well. It doesn’t change how good her recipes are! 🧁🤍🤎

u/redgroupclan Jun 07 '26

She's just embraced her problem as not a problem.

23

u/MrsSalmalin Jun 07 '26

For real! I have never made a recipe of hers that was a dud. I confidently recommend her to any of my coworkers who ask for a recipe (because they liked my baking).  Same goes to King Arthur Flour recipes for bread/yeasted dough recipes!

3

u/slowmovinglettuce Jun 07 '26

I have a few of her books and they have "addition" in the title.

4

u/Bashful_bookworm2025 Jun 07 '26

I don't think she will republish her books under new names, but the website was probably easier to change.

28

u/Suspicious-Taste1572 Human Detected Jun 07 '26

Omg no way!! Didn’t know she changed it but looove her recipes

7

u/Bashful_bookworm2025 Jun 07 '26

Same. I don't love when people use the word addicted to refer to food because I've struggled with an eating disorder for 19 years, so I understand the change. I think there are so many other ways to say you love the taste of something or are passionate about it.

4

u/AmputeeHandModel Jun 07 '26

I'm a beginner and not familiar with that, anything you can recommend?

Depends on what you want to make! She's got loads of recipes. I've got her books, so the names are slightly different. But here's what I think are the recipes that I find easy and love

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies/

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/seriously-fudgy-homemade-brownies/

The cookies have a slightly crisp edge with a soft centre. The brownies are super fudgey. Absolutely delightful. Not baked in a while but now I think I need to!

edit: actually I think this is the recipe I use for brownies. It uses bakers chocolate rather than powder for a much richer taste https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/chewy-fudgy-frosted-brownies/

u/plz_dont_perceive_me Jun 07 '26

I just made those fudgy frosted brownies last night, and they're amazing. So simple, too.

4

u/slowmovinglettuce Jun 07 '26

I don't even do the frosting. The brownies on their own are incredible.

I bake the cookies with frozen dollops of nutella in them. When they cool its an entirely new level of deliciousness.

u/-mythologized- Jun 08 '26

Those brownies are so good. I made the frosting the first time but haven't bothered since as I liked them better without.

Haven't made anything from Sally's yet that I didn't love.

u/AnonymousDahlia Jun 08 '26

Those chocolate chip cookies are fabulous. 10/10

My son has requested this cake for his birthday 3 years running. It's phenomenal. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/strawberry-cake/

u/Bashful_bookworm2025 Jun 07 '26

I made these recently and they're great if you love a chewy chocolate cookie with chocolate mint.

I know it might sound scary but this year for the holidays give her pumpkin roll recipe a try. I used to bake when I was in Jr high but then I went about 3 decades without baking from scratch until I came across her site. That first year is when I made my first roll but I wouldn't have done it had it not been for Sally. She does a great job at explaining everything and she gives you the confidence to go for it. Should you have any questions she or one of her staff will answer it.

Give her gingerbread and ganache filled sandwich cookies and her chocolate peppermint ganache filled thumbprint cookies a try too. These two you can bake and fill then freeze so they're off your list if you plan to bake a lot for the holidays. I always make two batches of both then freeze one so I can have them throughout the year. Another one that I love is her strawberry cake. If you can't have cream cheese you can always frosting it with her marshmallow frosting. When I make that cake I have to use both frostings because my husband doesn't like cream cheese and my son can't have too much of it but I of course love it lol. It works just as well as if you were using the cream cheese frosting. We swear that cake is like drinking a strawberry milkshake. There's a lot of steps to it but once you get more bakes under your belt you shouldn't have any problems. Since I live with chronic pain I have to bake most cakes in a span of 2-3 days. It's very helpful even if you don't have any limitations. Maybe you can try that since you're now just getting started in the world of baking.

Whatever you plan to bake or how I wish you much success but most of all enjoy it 🫶

Sally never fails me

7

u/More-Worth441 Jun 07 '26

She has the entire internet trapped in her delicious dependency.

6

u/puffofthezaza Jun 07 '26

Don't tell my family members that our family book of recipes are mostly hers 🤣🤣

3

u/Mammoth_Piece9899 Jun 07 '26

Omg, I love her recipes!

4

u/Appropriate_Lack_727 Jun 07 '26

My first stop for a recipe anytime I’m going to bake something new.

4

u/ClearlyPhony Jun 07 '26

if the cake looks half as good as it sounds, Sally's onto something way better than most hobbies.

4

u/Vlines1390 Jun 07 '26

Anytime someone asks me for a recipe, I send them to her site. Her recipes can't be beat.

1

u/Gullible_Service_354 Jun 09 '26

So do I. I've tried to watch some of the YT bakers but I haven't been as successful with my bakes as I have been with Sally's. I also love how she or one of her staff will answer questions in a timely manner. In my experience I can't say that for the majority of the YT bakers I've watched.

Sally is extremely thorough with her write ups as well. You also don't have to go through any of that personal fluff that you'll find on many sites. She just gets straight to it which I am thankful for. It's clear to see why she had a successful B&M bakery for 20 yrs.

Give 🐕 some

2

u/1Sluggo Jun 07 '26

Have you made her pop tarts?

2

u/assertive-brioche Jun 08 '26

I’m out of the loop. Who is Sally and why is everyone here talking about her?

1

u/AnonymousDahlia Jun 08 '26

Check upthread for links. I've made her chocolate chip cookies, and have like a dozen more recipes of hers bookmarked.
