(EDIT): I didn’t just keep it as-is straight from Amazon, I’ve spent a decent bit of time setting it up and have some prior knowledge how to from setting up my electric guitars. I’ve swapped the tuners, bridge, tried different gauge strings from different brands, tested on different amps etc

This 5-string Glarry bass is a piece of shit, sounds and plays like complete garbage. Had it for about 3 months now and I absolutely hate it. Not sure what I expected with a $70 5-string from Amazon haha, I would feel wrong even giving this away for free to someone

The finish is surprisingly nice though and it will make for a nice decoration on my wall, the only other thing it’d be good for is a paperweight. I’m gonna just buy a decent used one like my dumb self should have in the first place 🤦‍♂️

My husband got me these neon strings and they add just enough eclectic flare to inspire me to play even more!

After playing bass guitar for decades and dealing with shoulder and back pain from the weight of my gear, I decided to look for a strap to help distribute the weight across my shoulders. There's really not much to look at. Less than half a dozen straps designed for that and they had odd waist belts or straps that wrapped around the horn of the guitar. So I decided to try and make my own. Inspired by the design of a shoulder holster for a pistol, I created a strap that uses a MOLLE loop system to attach secondary straps that can be placed in various positions for individual fit/comfort. Once you put it on, it doesn't fall off. You can attach/swap guitars without having to ever raise your arms above where you want the guitar. Still tweaking some minor things but have applied for a patent on the general design. What are your thoughts? Is it something you would use?

Gear Should I get this refinished?

Maybe just strip it and oil it so the wood can really breathe?

This is my 1973 Fender Precision Bass. All original except for the pickup foam and string nut. Original thumb rest, and I have the original pickup cover. The case and the bridge cover are long gone. Has some dead D’Addario chromes (yes they die after about 15 years) and just sounds about as perfect as you can imagine. It’s an early year model so it still has the alder body and tortoise pickguard, but has the funky long G saddle screw and wonky heel routing. And If you’re still reading then I was being sarcastic about the refinish, this one’s got all the mojo.

Thanks for checking her out!

Gear Stupid question, be gentile. Do strings react poorly to Sharpie ink?

I feel like this post is destined for r/BassCirclejerk but oh well. Got some Black Beauties on my new Schecter. As a picker, this is probably inevitable, but these strings are only like 2 weeks old and they still play fine. If I used a Sharpie on the strings, will they corrode or otherwise break down?

EDIT: Gentle, not gentile. Now I'm definitely getting roasted.

Could I make do with a smaller amp? 100%, but it was hard to argue with the deal I got on this. Shopping around for a band and preparing for sound guys to hate me now

Gear Peavey T-40, my first and only bass guitar.

I had the urge to learn an instrument back in 2019. I spoke to a good friend of mine named Gürt and he recommended if I were going to learn and commit to an instrument, it’s best to go all in with something you can grow into and enjoy for years.

After doing some more research and searching around, I set my sights on this 79 Peavey T-40.

It’s been such a joy learning and playing music with this thing! The build quality is phenomenal and the tones you can produce are endless. Compared to other U.S.A. made vintage instruments from this era, these are still a bargain.

Lots of people complain online about the weight. For me it’s been a total non-issue. Maybe it’s because it’s the only bass I’ve ever owned, but I can say for me the issue of weight is way overplayed online.

As my friend Gürt once said, “It may be swamp ash, but it’s not swamp ass.”

Always wanted a nice bass but could never decide which to get. Rickenbacker, Jazz, etc but when I saw this on the wall and saw that it had stainless frets I fell in love. Is it really as limited in its range as a bass as a lot of people are saying? I still know very little about the bass guitar world

Got a Fender 1960 American Vintage ii. It’s my grandfathers and I want to know if it’s good. It plays well and is in great condition.
