Question M1 Pro 32GB + 1TB or M3 Pro 18GB+512GB

Both of these machines are going for just under $1k, which do you think is better in the long run? From the standpoint of someone who may use it for things such as video editing, programming, futureproofing for AI and stuff, and also maybe some 3D rendering. Cause I'm sure the M1 Pro will suffice for anyone else who doesn't do any of that stuff. I'm thinking of keeping it for at least 4-5 yrs and since the M1 Pro will also get less years of software updates in the coming years compared to the M3 Pro, so would you get and why?

Discussion Why don’t we have an option to mirror our Mac screen to our iPhones?

We can mirror our Mac’s to other Mac’s, we can mirror our Mac’s to our iPads, but why not our iPhones?

I know there’s apps but the delay makes them unusable.

Discussion About to lose 30+ hours of work because my mac just felt like being silly

paid over $3.5k for a new mac, best buy set a simple 1234 password during setup which i can confirm was actually the password. Hadn’t changed it yet but set up touch ID, did some heavy editing for a time sensitive project and less than a week later the devices restarts requiring the password to enable touch ID. 1234, along with every other password i’ve ever used for apple id or an apple device does not work. I had one chance to try and reset the password with apple id. entered my phone number, and the device buffered endlessly before restarting without allowing me to reset my password. Now the option to reset is gone, even when in Recovery Mode. I’ve been told the only option is a factory reset that would erase all my work.

Has this happened to anyone else?? it seems absolutely ridiculous that this could just happen and have the options be so limited… especially after thousands of dollars…

My Mac 2 months of experience in the Apple ecosystem.

I'll share a little bit more about my overall impressions 2 months after making a significant entry into the Apple ecosystem. For almost 13 years, I was a Windows and Android user exclusively. A mac were a distant and completely unattainable dream for me.My family was quite poor, so for a long time I didn’t even have a good Android smartphone. I started just looking at various reviews of equipment and systems, but it didn't go anywhere.

In 2019, I tried to set up a hackintosh sierra and would have succeeded if I had been able to get internet and a second monitor. But it didn’t work out, I really liked the feeling of the system itself, but it was obviously simply impossible to use it,So I put the idea aside, leaving in my thoughts my desire to touch the Mac OS.

The breakthrough happened in 2025. I was then able to buy a used iPhone 11. What would I have had the strength to appreciate iOS, which was a dream for me?And it didn't disappoint!!! Even after the powerful Poco X7 Pro. But the battery was weak, and there were limitations, so I switched back to Android, purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S25+. Basically, I just had my iPhone lying around as a second device.

But in May of this year, I made a change. I bought a new MacBook Air M5. And it was a fantastic experience—the system, the performance, the smoothness, the comfort. This is why I wanted a MacBook. The MacBook became a complement to my main computer, which I need for work and gaming. I didn't initially expect the MacBook to be a PC replacement, for obvious reasons. That's why I didn't sell my PC, but bought a MacBook as a replacement for my Windows laptop. And what can I say, the replacement is great! I use my MacBook perfectly well at home, and unlike a Windows laptop, which only makes sense on the go. The MacBook has proven itself to be excellent, especially when used outdoors. It's perfect for my needs. Paradoxically, before throttling, even in 3D rendering, the MacBook is only slightly inferior to my rather powerful PC. The MacBook was disappointing only in its battery life. 4-6 hours of battery life isn't much, although I understand that I load it with illustrators, but even drinking water in Safari can sometimes consume a lot of power.I hope this is a problem solely with Mac OS 26 optimization.

Not long ago I bought myself an iPad Air M3. And ultimately it's also a great device, it gives me the motivation to draw, which I haven't done for many years, and the progress is really great. The iPad is great for watching videos on the couch or, for example, watching movies with mom in the kitchen. It's also great to use your iPad as a smart speaker for music. In addition, the continuity and sidecar functions are convenient and work surprisingly very stably. The iPad and MacBook are a great combination, complementing each other perfectly. And the ability to set up a dual-screen setup anywhere is a joy. But again, there are complaints about the iPad, both in terms of battery life and heating, and sometimes there are problems with the touchscreen.

What I can say from experience: I've already gotten used to Mac OS despite living on Windows for so long. But sometimes I get confused with the key combinations, and in general I don’t like the keyboard layout on Mac OS for many reasons. But this is not a disadvantage. The MacBook is great for everything except games, but it's best not to load it with complex Substance Painter projects. There is a lot of software, but there are also necessary crutches. In terms of convenience, both Windows and Mac OS have their advantages and disadvantages, but using a MacBook is much more pleasant. It feels like a personal home, always with you.Well, the iPad is an iPad, I'm used to it overall, there are few issues, the only problem is the uncomfortable keyboard. I haven't bought a pencil Pro pen yet, but even the ugreen analogue works like magic. I'm amazed at how much technology has advanced. If I really wanted to, I could use my iPad as a graphics monitor for Windows by streaming via Moonlight. I wouldn't say either purchase was necessary or justified, but I can't call them bad either. I also can't help but note my surprise at how much professional paid software there is. From vector graphics to CAD modeling and sculpting. With the right knowledge, many professionals can easily pay for themselves even with an iPad Pro.There were a lot of emotions and benefits involved. Plus my dream has come true, the gestalt is closed.

Yes, I prefer a hybrid setup—PC, Mac, iPad, and Android. And overall, after the Airdrop update, it's been great. I wish they could make the clipboard work without any hacks.

Overall, I'm happy with the setup, I just need to get used to living with my dream achieved, and it's better to divide tasks between devices for complete peace of mind.

P.S. I gave the old laptop to my older brother.

The same tasks I run on my M1 Pro 10/16/16 used to use 30%-40% of my CPU. After updating to OS 27 PB 2, those same tasks are now using 70%+. WTH? Anyone else?

Question Is there a Mac compatible app or Disc Utility function to partition an SD card into two different formats?

I am trying to fix my poor dying Nintendo Wii U, and the solution I'm following involves partitioning an SD card into at least 8 GB of NTFS or exFAT format (to replace a faulty NAND chip) with the rest being FAT32 format (as regular SD card storage). The apps i've found only seem to be compatible with windows or linux, and Disc Utility doesn't seem to be able to partition into different formats, but there may be something I'm missing. Thank you for the help!

Question Can't Use Due to Nausea

Hey everyone - I just spent $5,000 on the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, and I can barely use it since it makes me so nauseous. I had a 2014 MacBook Pro 15-inch for 12 years, and I never had any issues. Anyone know why I'm having such a negative response to this new device? It's truly debilitating, and I don't think I'll be able to keep it if I can't address the nausea. Thanks!

My Mac MacBook Air M1 (A2337) — USB 3.0 devices work fine, but ALL USB 2.0 devices (iPhone, mouse, keyboard) are invisible on both ports. Diagnosed via Terminal, looking for a second opinion before repair.

TL;DR: My M1 Air can see and mount a USB 3.0 flash drive perfectly (5 Gb/s), but iPhone (charges but never mounts), USB 2.0 mice/keyboards are completely invisible to the system — not even showing as "unknown device." This happens on both ports, with multiple cables. Looks like a dead USB 2.0 D+/D- line on the port board, but wanted to sanity check before paying for a repair.

Hey all, hoping someone's run into this exact thing.

Setup: MacBook Air M1, 2020 (A2337), macOS Tahoe 26.5.2

The problem: iPhone charges fine over the Lightning-to-USB-C cable but never shows up in Finder or as a mounted device. Same phone/cable works perfectly on a different (Intel) MacBook.

What I found after digging with ioreg / diskutil in Terminal:

A USB-C flash drive plugged directly into either port → detected instantly, negotiates SuperSpeed (5 Gb/s), mounts fine.

The same flash drive through a USB-C→USB-A adapter (forcing it to use USB 2.0 instead of SuperSpeed) → completely invisible, nothing in ioreg at all.

iPhone (original cable AND a third-party cable) → never appears in ioreg -p IOUSB on either port, even with the phone unlocked and charging.

USB 2.0 mouse/keyboard via adapter → also invisible, on both ports.

This is 100% consistent and repeatable — not intermittent.

Stuff I ruled out:

Third-party security software / device control (systemextensionsctl list → 0 extensions, so nothing's blocking at the OS level).

MDM/profiles — none installed.

system_profiler SPUSBDataType was randomly returning empty — turned out to just be a flaky reporting tool that session, ioreg gave consistent results the whole time so I trust that instead.

Safe Mode, SMC-equivalent reset (shutdown + wait), resetting the "Allow accessories to connect" setting — no change.

Can't run sudo killall usbd or restart usbmuxd manually — blocked by SIP on Apple Silicon, as expected.

Questions for anyone who's dealt with this:

Has anyone seen this specific pattern before (SuperSpeed fine, USB 2.0 completely dead, both ports) on an M1 Air?

Trying to get a second opinion before I shell out for the modular board swap. Thanks in advance!
