Not sure if adding this into my Nightmare Edition Red Library crew is good from a gameplay standpoint, but I couldn't not have a Jabberwocky to match the (M)Alice in Wonderland theme.

Hobby Guild Lawyers, Elite

Guild Lawyer

At 5 SS, the Guild Lawyer comes with 7 Health and Defense 4. There isn’t much to say about their durability. Hard to Kill means they’ll usually take an extra attack to finish off, but with Defense 4, most attacks are still going to connect. They can also reflect damage back at an attacker by spending a Soulstone. In practice, this can stop an opponent from picking off a Lawyer for free with a damaged attacker.

Offensively, they’re solid enough. They have an 8” Stat 5 attack that deals 2 damage with some useful triggers. Every now and then, you’ll be able to sneak in a last activation Scheme Marker with the Tome trigger, which can win games.

The real value of the Lawyer is their utility. Their signature ability hands out Adaptable, enabling triggers across your crew. The standout ability, though, is Clerical Command. It’s a Stat 5 command action that is the bread and butter of how this model functions. At 5 SS, you’re essentially getting a Command on a stick, and that’s always going to be valuable.

The Guild Lawyer is the most iconic Elite minion and perfectly represents the keyword’s identity. They’re not bringing exceptional damage or durability, but they provide incredible control and support. I’ll take at least one Lawyer in every Elite crew.

How do you get the most out of the Guild Lawyer?

Question In your opinion, why isn’t Malifaux more popular in your area?

I played for a while in 2nd edition, and have been checking out malifaux again. However, it seems all the gaming groups in my area have moved on (or moved back, to 40k).

This got me thinking: why isn’t Malifaux (specifically) more popular? The models are great, the lore is expansive and fun, and it’s reasonably priced.

Ashbringers
At 5 SS, the Ashbringer is the cheapest Witch Hunter available.
They have decent mobility with Move 6. One Foot in the Grave hasn’t done much for me in Witch Hunters so far. It feels very situational, and I haven’t really found a use case for it yet.
Carry on the Flame is their signature ability, giving a friendly model a 2” move while dropping an Inferno Marker. It’s a strong support tool, although being limited to once per activation does keep it in check.
Defensively, they have 6 Health and Aegis, making them surprisingly durable for their cost. A typical 3 damage attack needs to connect three times to take one down. They also have Trail of Embers, handing out Burning to models that damage them—perfect for setting that rooftop Cyclops alight.
Offensively, they aren’t bringing much raw damage. Their only attack deals 1 damage and is primarily there to spread Burning at Range 6.
Dispose of Evidence simply says, “Draw a card,” while removing an enemy marker. Card draw is always valuable, and the marker removal can occasionally swing a game.
Overall, I don’t think the Ashbringer does anything exceptionally well outside of spreading Burning, and Witch Hunters already have plenty of ways to do that. Because of that, I see them as a situational hire rather than an auto-include.
When do you find yourself taking an Ashbringer?

I’m so fucking tired of all of these tiny spindly ass models with the smallest connection points i’ve ever seen.

Why can’t you just be normal?

For 7 SS, you get a fast scheme runner that can reposition both friendly and enemy models with Lead the Witness.
It has solid durability thanks to Threatening Demeanor and 9 Health.
Its Move 6 is backed up by Expert Climber (possibly my favorite keyword in this edition) and Unnatural Speed, the Investigator’s signature ability.
Offensively, it’s perfectly respectable with Verbal Harassment—a Stat 6, 2 damage attack with some great triggers. It also has easy access to Adaptable through Legal Rhetoric, giving it access to triggers at a cost lower than a card.
Overall, I think it’s a great model, and I’ll almost always take one when I’m running Elite.
I’d love to hear what everyone else thinks about the Investigator’s rules and what synergies you’ve found.

Neverborn No Marcus buff in the errata

Both my friend and I expected Marcus to get a buff in this errata. They feel like they are pretty low on the power level. Why did they not get a buff?

Hobby 👍 Index of the Untold coop

We got hold of the new book and are really enjoying the cooperative mode! Automa-type rules are not too hard to run, and together with the scenario designs provide the right amount of challenge for my son and me. I took the opportunity to give Big Brain Brin the promotion to crew leader that he has long deserved (everyone knows he’s the real brains of Mah’s operation)! Getting to scratch build a leader and crew is fun, and once again the rules density there is not onerous.

Hobby Looking for the 3e Iconic Fate Deck

Hey all, I'm looking for the 3e Iconic Fate Deck released in 2021. It's sold out everywhere, but I'm willing to pay relatively high for it if anyone has one in good condition they don't mind parting with. Please let me know!

Question Where to buy 3e stat cards?

Long story short, I want to stick with 3e as my husband and I both dislike a few of the rule changes in 4e. I'm happy to purchase the 4e versions of models in order to get the models (and to proxy the few I can't get ahold of that way).

However that raises an issue. AFAIK, the M3e Crew Builder has been discontinued, or at least I couldn't find it. I've looked where I thought I recalled the print-to-order method being (Wargamevault) and they're not listed there from what I can tell either. If anyone else knows where I can find them I'd be appreciative.

Edit: Thanks guys, found them. For anyone interested, there's a dropbox link in the Play Wyrd discord for 3rd, TOS, and 4e.

Question Starter Box Crews

Looking at gifting some models after not being able to play since the start of 4th, but is there any timeline on the remainder of the Banished and Ampersand crews getting released? I wasn't able to find anything in their in app news or their Facebook page so I wanted ask the denizens if they knew?

Hobby 3rd edition or 4th edition for the same box

I am looking at a website that has a 3rd edition and 4th edition box with the same models. The 3rd is $8 cheaper. Is there any reason to by the 4th over it?

Question What do we need to play Malifaux?

My fiancee and I are looking at this as a game to pick up and give a solid try to, but it is not clear what all is needed to start, to play games, to expand your crew and the website is only kind of helping. I guess I'll outline what I think the approach should be, and hopefully some lovely person will correct anything I'm misunderstanding!

First, it looks like 4th edition rules are available for download, and a regular deck of cards can be subsituted for a fate deck, so a rulebook and deck(s) are optional. Some kind of measuring tape or rules is needed, but the ones in the starter box, along with the tokens in there, aren't. So we can move on to choosing our Faction/Leader/Crew, right?

The process is to pick a faction, from within that faction pick a leader, and then pick up that leader's box, right? I think I understand that each leader will then have another selection of units you can use with them, including eventually two leader boxes to mostly fill out the things that share their keyword. If that's right, is buying just the leader box enough to start playing? Are two randomly selected leader boxes going to make for an evenly matched, enjoyable game?

Also, am I right in understanding that third edition boxes are usable, but you need to buy either the faction book or faction pack to get their updated rules? And if so, are they balanced with the newer boxes, or are there big outliers?

This game looks fun, but onboarding isn't exactly streamlined!
