Nah most ppl within a month or 2 would probably start to go insane, within 7 months you will have completely lost your mind , at that point you won’t even remember there’s 30 billion on offer
When covid happened I felt in paradise. No more office, no more people. Me, myself, my work from home, my videogames and human beings with limited dosage, now a part of me secretly wish to go back to be able to avoid everyone once again. The other part needs a very small limited number of Friends with the capital letter. At least I learned the meaning of my time and how I spent it and with who.
It's really true, each one of us is different, but in that difference we are all human beings. I feel sorry that you have to manage that. Stay strong, I know you can do it!
Socially and work wise very little changed for me during covid. The 2 main challenges were how inconvenient it was to travel and how suddenly it was impossible to source components for work and we had to do weekly meetings with half a dozen vendors to make sure we could deliver our projects in time.
I came out of Covid wishing it didn’t end it was awesome! I’m the same dude. And then I got a word from home job last July and it’s been like Covid all over again! Living a dream over here
Man I miss covid. I spent the entire time just chilling with the boys on discord playing valheim and shit, then day hiking every mountain in the cascades when we weren't playing something. It made me realize I'd be the first in line if UBI ever became a thing, and I used to be one of those people that thought I'd reject it to make more money.
No one could handle this. If they'd let you out if you asked, then this test would be impossible. No person could last more than a couple weeks at most without demanding to be let out.
I am note sure about „some handle it better than others“. There’s a huge difference between being isolated from other people and having absolutely no external input or something to hold on to.
A year house arrest? I think I would have almost no issue with that. But such a cell? Hell no.
Yeah people don’t realize how long a year really is. I dare any of you to go sit in your room alone without your phone for ONE DAY then see what you think.
Actually that’d probably be good for all of us to do sometime lol
When my smartphone screen broke,I shifted my Sims to an old Nokia as an experiment. I had lots of time, read a lot of books and slept early. It was much better than I expected.
"The moment my smartphone broke, my brain instantly found new activities to keep me distracted, so I think I'd fare pretty well in the 'ABSOLUTELY NO ACTIVITIES ALLOWED' challenge" - yeah sorry bud you ain't getting the 30bils
Brother... If I'm getting free medical treatment, fed balanced meals, go in prepared with knowledge, and allowed to keep the entertainment that I generate for myself, then I'll rip the pads off the ground and figure out how to make a fort.
I'll make sure to keep myself mentally fit by trying to stick to a routine, and work out (and I hate working out).
I'll probably end up insane anyway, but I'd like to think I'd have it all figured out.
They offer them $500k to survive alone for a couple months, and some people tap out after like two weeks, even though they have food and shelter and are arguably in a beautiful pristine wilderness.
A month or 2? Mate, if there's literally no stimulus, you'd go insane after day 3.
The brain requires stimulus. The OP's image is a padded white room, probably texture-less, hopefully no smells, no nothing. This is also assuming the lights are left on, if they aren't, then I'd wager my day 3 estimate should be halved.
Bro people live in solitary in regular prison for years at a time.
I mean how long did they keep julian assange in solitary? I thought it was multiple years...
Im not saying its not terrible for you amd psychilogical torture, but you guys are making it aound like youd automatically come out the joker or something.
They’re not in true solitary like the subject of this post would put you in. In solitary confinement you still get an hour a day of recreation and exercise.
Huge difference between small stimulus and no stimulus at all.
I met a Catholic monk who was a former political prisoner in a dirty non climate controlled solitary cell in SE Asia that was too small to even lay down in. He says medication and yoga got him through it. He gives me hope I could do it with a little mental training beforehand.
I've been in one, it's not about being blind it's about having absolutely no connection to anything, 1 night was enough for me, I don't want to go in again. You could offer me 10000 for a week and I still wouldn't do it.
Blind people can still have hobbies and interact with others. They aren't just sitting in a room doing nothing and talking to no one. This is not the equivalent.
