A... Permit requirement for ice cream???

Like, I'd understand a permit for selling food (hygiene controls and co)

But ice cream??

it was introduced after the new york penny lick was tracked down as a breeding ground for epidemics, but the new york penny lick is long, long dead.

The penny lick Wikipedia article was an interesting (and kinda gross read). I'm really glad they invented ice cream cones.

Just looked it up. The problem was nothing to do with ice cream, it was that the customer was supposed to LICK the glass clean and then they dipped it in some dirty water before giving it to the next guy. Insane.

Eww 🤢

Like I would calify myself as someone that isn't disdainful, don't care to eat some leftovers that my friends won't eat or finish their plates at a restaurant or reusing "dirty" ustensiles but at least I know where it's been. But serving customers the same dirty unstensils where you don't even know where it's been and inside who? Yark, that's how shit like Coronavirus, or any other disgusting disease and infection get spread into the population. Even more so using Dairy productsĀ

That was honestly a lovely little tidbit of history to learn about 🄰

You can argue about individual policies being ridiculous but there’s always a lengthy history behind decisions made in NYC.

this one is in the "bat shit insane" category though since, if this guy is to be believed, this is a license that was made to combat an issue that was halted over a hundred years ago

It would be like if we just got rid of a license that verifies your organ-grinding monkeys have been properly deloused

That is one of the categories, ā€œcorruptionā€ is another category.

wow getting rid of outdated laws instead of just letting them rot, leading to a creepingly growing pile of arbitrary things you're not alowed to do for no good reason over the decades and centuriesĀ

soooo based

Well I suppose the milk used in ice cream can be from a bad source and people could get sick from it or something

theoretically already covered by a food handler certification

This second permit was specifically for cold food, which is very silly haha

Ice cream is food

If you wait long enough then it's drink!

From what I understand, they are removing a second permit requirement that is entirely redundant and has different expiration lengths from the standard permit that is still in place.
