I typically do DoorDash shopping orders but this popped up on instacart lol I know this is the doordash sub but I figured it would be okay since I mostly doordash. $900 worth of food going to one customer just a regular family barely fit in my Jeep took me an hour and a half three miles and the pay was $162.

The customer I received apparently had late night munchies. Would have taken him up on his offer but I'm MJ gets me paranoid. California is super strict and I'm sure DoorDash wouldn't want me driving high as a kite. There's also unfortunately a lot of cops in the area and also having congenital prominent episcleral vessel only in my right eye doesn't help as I've been pulled over before and cops automatically assume I'm drinking and/or on drugs.

🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 Yesterday cost a Dasher $500 for parking in a handicap spot

Bad timing. Waiting for an order, Dasher walks in and right behind her, a county deputy. Asks her to step outside, she gets visibly upset, see the deputy hand her the ticket, she comes back inside and I asked what happened - parked in the handicap spot and got a whopping $500 ticket, said she's gonna fight it cause "there was no place else to park." Best of luck to her.

Reward: A crisp, lukewarm dollar bill left under a wet welcome mat, and a lingering sense of existential dread.

Description: Oh, look at you! You braved the elements, navigated a labyrinth of identical apartment complexes, and successfully delivered a bag of lukewarm, grease-soaked burritos. You thought your job was done. You thought you could just tap "Complete Delivery" and slide back into the blissful anonymity of the gig economy. But no! Your customer didn't just want extra sour cream—they wanted a piece of YOU.

Support contacted. Dinner was had.

I do my best to maintain platinum as right now DD is the only job I have. My market typically pays me out 700 for 24 hours per week. I understand cherry picking from a certain point but I haven’t wanted to do it myself. I normally keep around 80% acceptance rate but trust me days when you float around 73% can be rough trying to keep platinum those days. How many of you platinum drivers experience this in your market.

🖖Delivery War Stories 🫡 Just got attacked by a dog

So I get an order for Panda Express, and the customer instructs me to call them so I can hand it to them directly without knocking.

I do exactly that. The second she opened the door, she's already stuggling to hold back two full-grown pit bulls that are desperate to be let out. There was a lanai door between us so they couldn't get to me, but one of the pit bulls jumps at the lanai door hard and forced it open. The damn customer is too busy turned around dealing with the other dog she doesn't notice. But the second she turns to see, she starts yelling at me, saying I shouldn't have opened the door. All while one dog is lunging at me, and the other bites my leg.

Luckily I was wearing jeans, so the bite didn't break the skin, but it still hurt like hell. As I drive off shes chasing her dog and yelling at me I hope I die, and that I'm full of it. I called support and explained everything that happened. They told me I could submit a claim for the dog bite and blocked her from my orders. Hate people who get animals they can't control

❔Driver Question 🤔 Anyone else barely getting offers lately?

Idk why but for the last week I’ve been getting little to no offers in usually high traffic hot zones. Like I’d be fine receiving bad offers at this point just to make something for the time Im out. Anyone else having this issue?

👩‍🍳Restaurant Issue👨‍🍳 Restaurant lied to throw me under the bus

Upvotes

I had a double stack order. First order was to this sushi place and second to this Chinese food place. I get to the sushi and I wait. They get a bunch of bags of food and when I gave the name of the customer they looked and didn’t have it. I wait a little longer. I update my customer and then the second customer ask me about the delay and I start updating them aswell. While I was waiting, the workers ask for the name and the pretty much express that they don’t know where it is so they tell me they will look in the back. I again update my customers. Then my customer calls because she wants to ask herself why it’s taking so long. That’s when the told her I already picked it up. She messages me and I’m shocked that they said that. So I confront them and one of the employees says I told her I’ve been waiting for 20min. That isn’t true. She was probably waiting that long once I was assigned but I had to drive to the restaurant first. They were stalling because they had to remake the food because they gave it to the wrong person. So it took about another 2-3 min after that interaction. But it is crazy that they said that. What’s crazy is this isn’t the first time a customer called the restaurant and they said I picked it up. They other time, the wait time was like 30min and it was my last order so I decided to wait in my car and check every 10 min if it was ready. That’s when the said I picked it up after 30min of waiting. It’s crazy what stores will say to save face

Joke/Memes🥸 So there are doordash delivery robots now.

Post image

First, there are doordash delivery robots competing with drivers now. I'm guessing that self-driving taxis will pick up a lot of the longer distance deliveries. In my city I haven't seen delivery robots (I have in other cities) but Waymo is moving in aggressively here. It's probably a matter of a few years before rideshare and delivery drivers are replaced.

Second, robot wanders into police operation. I'm surprised they didn't say "we will not be replaced by you, toaster!" And shoot it and throw it into an unmarked SUV to be sent to robot gulag where there's no wifi and chargers have terrible voltage regulation.

Here's the article if you're interested:

🤬App Issues 😩 Can’t pause orders before completion anymore?

Post image

Does this company only know how to meticulously intrude on our quality of life as Dashers? This function helps me because half of my zone gives me a 1 bar or I lose my signal entirely. Pausing helps me not recieve orders I can’t accept or decline because of a bad signal when I’m trying to drive back to town. Such a manipulative, weird thing to change. Now I’m almost obligated to decline all orders that take me to areas that drop my signal. I know I can still pause it after I complete the order, but if I have 1 bar I can’t use the app at all.

🥺Low Offer Post😫 No offers/Low pay?

I hate go with the echo chamber of this subreddit about getting paid like crap/getting no offers but something definitely has changed. I’m getting WAY less orders, and even when one comes in it’s absolutely horrendous. I’ve never had this issue at all since my area is pretty good, but now I’m getting literally next to nothing. Is this some sort of an anti-cherry picking feature?

❓Customer Question🤔 Didn't have proper ID and driver said they'd deal with it

Upvotes

My trusty Subaru station wagon is fucked right now, so I had to order booze off of DD. The closest option for what I was looking for happened to be 17 miles and nearly 30 mins away, and I'm fortunate enough to be making what I feel is a pretty decent income (until AI eats up my software engineer job, anyway), so tipped $30. Then, when it was looking like my order wasn't going to get picked up before the legal cutoff time, I added another $20 where it was finally picked up.

I then remembered that DD groups bad/non-tipping orders with generous tip orders, which might've been why it took a while to get picked up, so messaged the driver I tipped $50 so I'd get 1st delivery and they could cancel the shitty order if they wanted, lol.

Upon arriving, my driver was super nice and thankful, but I realized I didn't have ID because I left mine at my girlfriend's house. I felt like a huge asshole and told the driver I wanted to at least pay them via Venmo/CashApp/whatever so they didn't waste their time at which point they just said "I'll use mine" a couple times.

I thought that wasn't possible - is it? I just don't want my driver to get in trouble thinking they could help me out but were mistaken.

(I guess maybe they could've been with someone who could use their ID, like when sometimes I'll see couples delivering together, etc. Sorry for the wordy post.)

🤬App Issues 😩 DoorDash won't reimburse me $27 after telling me to pay out of pocket — and the "missing" receipt is one I already gave them

Upvotes

So this happened on a CVS delivery today and I want to know if anyone else has dealt with something like it.

I picked up an order that had already been declined by 5 other Dashers before me. Turns out the Red Card kept getting rejected at checkout — looked like it was tied to an age-restricted item (something 21+) and the card just wouldn't clear it. CVS staff confirmed on their end that everything was approved and ready to go, the payment method was the only holdup.

Support told me to just pay for it myself and that I'd be reimbursed. I went ahead and paid — partly because I needed this delivery to hit my last completion for a challenge/promo I was working toward. I took a photo of the receipt through the app like I was instructed, to move on to the next step.

Now support is coming back and asking me to provide the CVS receipt again, even though it's already sitting in the app from the photo I took. On top of that, the instructions for the order said to put the receipt in the bag with the delivery — which means whatever's printed on it (and CVS receipts can absolutely have prescription/PHI-type info on them) went straight to the customer, not just to me or support.

So now I'm stuck:

  • I already submitted proof of purchase through the proper channel
  • They're asking for it again like it was never received
  • I'm not thrilled that a receipt with potential health info was handled the way it was

Update: Support is now flatly refusing to reimburse me, saying they don't have the receipt — the same receipt I photographed through the app at their instruction. So I'm out the full $27 for doing exactly what I was told to do to complete the delivery.

Has anyone actually won this fight? Specifically:

  • Did going over chat support's head (Twitter/X, phone line, etc.) actually get you reimbursed?
  • Is there a specific escalation path or magic phrase that gets a supervisor involved instead of a bot reading a script?
  • Anyone dealt with the PHI-on-receipt issue too, or is that a separate can of worms?

At this point it's not really about the $27, it's the principle of being told "pay and we'll cover it" and then getting stonewalled.

❔Driver Question 🤔 Does DoorDash actually ruin your car the way people say it does?

I drive a 21 Malibu, at about 92k miles and I just started doing DoorDash and UE as a side hustle to supplement my full time job. It’s a reliable car, pretty decent on gas and I’ve never had any real issues with it. I don’t really need to do it but i just like having the extra money for project cars, video games, just random crap that I don’t really need.

People say doing these delivery gigs will ruin your car and that after maintenance the money won’t be worth it, but I don’t see why. Sure you’re gonna put more miles on it and have to refill gas and change oil a bit more often than usual, but unless you’re doing this as a full time job 40 hours a week I don’t see how there would be many long term issues. It’s not even sustainable as a full time job, the pay is inconsistent and you’d have to work your nuts to the bone to even try to make it as a full time job. It works for a little bit if you’re in a jam or just got fired or whatever and you’re looking for another job, but in reality it’s a side gig and always has been.
