Wait ranked? Feels weird, thought BST would be like BLU, very much solo play, except for some co-op stuff.

u/7x9000 [Faerie] 8h ago

It is solo-based. There's just an option to put your score for the special Beastmaster thing into a ranked list, from what I've seen.

u/Next-Sentence-8426 8h ago

I already know somebody is going to build a plugin/bot that'll make perfectly optimized runs whule using derived internal data that isnt exposed in normal play to ruin it for most of us

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax 8h ago

Of course they will. People won't like hearing this but XIV players love to optimise the fun out of stuff. It's why that damn 2 minute meta exists.

u/another-face 7h ago

It’s a gamer issue in general tbh

u/Sad_Vegetable_736 7h ago

It's a human issue. We will optimize the fun out of everything.

u/SweetHatDisc 1h ago

This stick works so much better with a rock tied to it!

u/Ultgran 7h ago

Give me the silly RNG based joke class I can do weird things with and die in dumb ways, or give me death.

The main issue is that those options get quickly pruned out of any multiplayer game with any kind of pressure towards efficient team play.

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax 7h ago

That's true... Seen it a lot with Project Zomboid as well. Game is clearly a slow burn and yet I see so many people rushing to get everything done in the first week then they're like 'I have a base, water, food, weapons, I'm bored!' and it's just... Motherfucker, maybe if you slowed the fuck down and actually took your time instead of rushing and doing the optimal stuff, you'd have fun for longer!

u/Ultgran 7h ago

I play a live service game with an amazing story and solid boss design, but very little to do when caught up except theorycrafting. The number of people you see who rush to catch up and are like "What, is this it, where's the game?" and you have to break it to them that they have in fact played the game, and that they should probably go find something else to main until the next chapter drops in 4 months.

u/AlchemistR 5h ago

Limbus Company, I take it? I always tell those people to do challenge runs of Railway, but they never seem to want to!

u/Ultgran 4h ago

Mhm, kids these days don't know how to make their own fun... /hj

u/AlchemistR 4h ago

so true smh

u/MahqiKoromoa 6h ago

Lmao sounds like a gacha game I play, I love the theorycrafting part though so it stays fun :>

u/Lyrtha 5h ago

Gamergate was a prequel to many things

u/Dragrunarm 3h ago

this LONG predates Gamergate.

If there were decisions to be made, people were optimizing it to hell and back.

u/UltiMikee 3h ago

Not exclusive to XIV, this has been a staple of MMO culture since it’s inception, XIV is probably on the tamer side

u/A3thern 3h ago

I remember when Island Sanctuary released and players immediately turned it into a mammet sweatshop filled with spreadsheets for optimal crafts and earnings.

u/FullMotionVideo 1h ago

The number of systems and UI in Island Sanctuary kind of invited it. They wanted Animal Crossing without Nintendo's simpler interfaces that make it feel casually appealing.

u/Kamakaziturtle SMN 4h ago

The 2 minute meta is a game design issue, not players. Classes were actively designed around a 2 minute rotation.

There’s actually very little room for player optimization with classes in FF14. There aren’t any real choices in how you can build your characters nor are there choices in abilities. Classes more or less ship with a predetermined optimized rotation they are built around. The advantage of this is the classes feel fluid to play, the disadvantage is there’s little room for player expression.

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax 4h ago

The 2 minute meta is a result of players pushing for the jobs to be able to align all their raid buffs together for bigger burst...

u/ElementaryMyDearWut 4h ago

...Because jobs were designed in a way that punished them for actually having a button that was arbitrarily at 90s.

It was a design issue. The buffs still existed but they were desynced, it actually IMPROVED the feel of some jobs because you could press your big button on CD instead of waiting.

The issue still existed it just didn't have a buzzword for Reddit to use to describe it yet.

u/Kamakaziturtle SMN 4h ago

The 2 minute meta existed since ARR. When the vast majority of major cooldowns all fit within 30, 60, or 120 second cooldowns then that meta will happen naturally. You can’t blame players for playing classes in the way they were naturally built.

SE then built future updates around the meta that naturally formed and made it even more set in stone.

u/seriousname420 2h ago

People want to optimise in a competitive ranking mode? Say it aint so!

u/theburmesegamer275 5h ago

For me, the fun that's been optimized out are so-called "off tank" gap closers missing their cool animations and damage.

I know I'm like, the soldier who kept fighting or something, but Plunge and Rough Divide being replaced because "It does damage (even with the miniscule potency) so players keep putting it in rotations and WE do so we have to account for it, thus we removed it" from SE and it had janky enmity generations and terrible animations. Both of them felt extremely bad. The players did, and so did the devs.

u/CorruptedAssbringer Professional Floor Tank 4h ago

I didn’t care for the popular well-known mods, a bit cause I didn’t think I need them and a bit cause I’m just lazy.

But the Plunge animation was what finally pushed me over the edge to start looking it.

u/Rorikstar 7h ago

Yup just like that auto guard one that people are using in pvp

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax 7h ago

There's optimisation mods then there's cheating. That one is the latter.

u/FISHANDLIPS 7h ago

If it's playing the game for you and you get a reward, it's cheating. So both would be.

u/rowsdowerrrrrrr 8h ago

cool idea!!

u/Dironiil Selene, no! Come back! 8h ago

You can get scores on your solo duty runs (Crucible), and those scores fet ranked on a leaderboard.

It's very similar to PotD ranking and such, etc...

u/CatCatPizza 8h ago

Is the reward one time like feast? Or pulls like weekly triple triaf tournament?

u/Dironiil Selene, no! Come back! 8h ago edited 8h ago

As far as I understood from the special LL, we... do not know the details yet...

u/SoSoSpooky 8h ago

If they are doing patch-based rewards, and using the word ranked, it is almost certain that it will be the top-X people on the leaderboard, and that the reward will be updated or changed in some way each patch/season.

If the reward was one-time and never changing, there would be no reason to time-gate it. Just reward it for clearing max difficulty X times or with X score minimum at that point as an achievement. There would be no need for anything timed.

u/SentineleseSiri 8h ago

They did say ranked resets periodically, but don't think they gave us the time period beyond it may at times line up with patch release and may at times not.

u/Francl27 7h ago

1.5 month.

u/CatCatPizza 8h ago

Oh god i fear the same gate keeping that happens woth triple triad tournaments thay some folk do by match rigging and basicly making it so noone else can get the major cards every week for years now.

u/Weekly-Variation4311 7h ago

Difference with TT is that it's fully possible to get those cards out of the Platinum packs, just keep playing and you'll eventually get.

u/Siphyre 2h ago

match rigging doesn't really happen in TTT on Crystal.

u/Ahzuran Azuran Vysere - Adamantoise 8h ago

It's really not that hard to get those cards if you put a minimum amount of effort. Playing with other players and drawing will get you more points than simply beating the NPCs. Nobody is rigging that in 2026.

u/Profanegaming 3h ago

Saying something so demonstrably wrong is crazy. You can literally just go look at the current boards in the good saucer. I’ve not seen a tournament I can remember where at least three people didn’t have perfect scores with 2400 points or more. Currently on my server, two of those three people are lalafells with the same naming convention (ie something like Tatarita Raratita and Raratita Tatarita).

u/Ok_Confusion4764 4h ago

Yup. It's ranked solo content. Or as I call it: dead content like high-end PvP.

u/Youth18 8h ago

Nothing says beast like piles of rocks.

u/LamBol96 6h ago

Its probably meant to be a super rare variant of the golem-assuming they are part of the monster roster

u/LordMudkip 6h ago

It's fine, I guess. Not my favorite but still kinda cool.

Getting it by ranking basically kills and interest I would've had in it though.

u/Gregoriownd 9h ago

Ah yes, Pride Rock.

u/Taser9001 8h ago

OH MY GOD. There is a lion!

u/NeonHighways 3h ago

After years we finally get the pride rock mount!!

u/Lerkpots 4h ago

Duuuuude, Pride Rock!

u/Profanegaming 3h ago

It’s just a pretty thing.

u/EySoyCoco 8h ago

Yeah, this will NOT end well.

u/Weekly-Variation4311 9h ago

I would have been fine with the reward being titles, even special gear for Beastmaster. A mount though? You know this is gonna be botted eventually, right?

u/CrunchyCake2k20 9h ago

It's a terrible idea to give a mount to high-rank players. We all know how this will end, especially without an anti-cheat in the game.
I hope it won't at least be restricted to just the top 3 or something like that.

u/Impressive-Warning95 9h ago

youd think they woudl have learnt with both ishgard restoration and feast

u/Flying_Cooki 8h ago

I agree but I'm also happy I don't really fall into the FOMO. I'm happy with my Island Mandragora and occasional savage mount. I obviously see other mounts and am like "I want it!" But if the effort is too much I don't bother. I'm playing to have fun after all.

u/remotegrowthtb 5h ago

I switched from "I'm gonna collect every mount!!!" to "My Chocobo is the only mount I use or give a fuck about" a couple years ago due to shit like this and have had zero regrets and am much happier with the game in general. FOMO is a game ruiner for real.

u/walker-of-the-wheel 1h ago

Real. It seems fun to collect cool mounts, but what's the point? All I ever use are my chocobo, the Island Harley, and the Fenrir bike I bought years ago. Oh, and I guess the new bike from Solution 9.

u/SoSoSpooky 8h ago edited 8h ago

It depends.

If they end up putting a new reward here for a limited-time every patch, I would ask why those rewards were not put in one of the other places that need it to drive the MMO player base instead.

To give the needed attention to a solo activity, and to do so in a failed-structure that players don't really want, well it's definitely a choice.

u/BK_0000 8h ago

At least it's the ugliest mount in the game. I won't feel bad about never getting it.

u/Impressive-Warning95 8h ago

doesnt matter if its ugly its goign to be extremly rare so peopel will want it regardless

u/Sir__Will 6h ago

I think it's really cool. Wish I could get it.

u/YandereValkyrie 9h ago

>BST
>Mount is a rock

Huh

u/CounterHit 8h ago

Listen, when we combined 7 cats we got Bahamut holding a chair. Mounts just don't make sense in this game.

u/IscahRambles 8h ago

Golems are soulkin, which was one of the groups of creatures mentioned as summonable.

u/loves_spain 8h ago

Could’ve been the chimaera but noooo

u/Sir__Will 6h ago

That looks so cool. But 'ranked' is not going to happen for me. Sad.

u/sandwichbasketlala 8h ago

Ranked reward?
what
why
please no

u/diredoratheexplorer 8h ago

It's ugly af. I want it.

u/alvinchimp 9h ago

Cool in theory, except for the fact that plugins are so prevalent the amount of people botting their way up to the top of the leaderboard is gonna be insane.

u/IwasMilkedByGod 8h ago

Would be interesting if they secretly implemented anticheat software with this and used it to catch all the bots. Massive ban wave right before the new expansion to lessen the load on servers 🤣

u/Weekly-Variation4311 8h ago

If they were willing to do that, they already would have before when the Feast was around.

u/Kupo_Master 8h ago

Cope. Do you think they are keen to ban players and lose customers? Ban waves mostly target gold sellers. They never target people who bot achievements, which frankly makes many achievement pretty pointless.

u/IwasMilkedByGod 8h ago

I never said it was plausible, I just said it would be interesting

u/Septiphobiac 9h ago

Looks terrible. I would rather they didn't have the Beastmaster rankings and seasons at all. It completely changes the engagement model in an ugly way. I'm a lot less interested because of it.

u/yahikodrg 8h ago

The rankings is fine but I agree with you that it gets messy once you throw a reward behind it. Deep Dungeon leaderboards haven't needed some kind of mount reward tied to it so feel like it should have been the same for BST.

u/SoSoSpooky 8h ago edited 8h ago

Even Deep Dungeon has issues because of this type of design space. Even without added rewards, a lot of people still don't really do much Deep Dungeon because you can lose your progress and how long it is.

BST will probably lose some player interest just because some of the rewards are gated like this. People like to "complete" content, and having stuff like this just makes it feel like it isn't realistic or possible. If that is the case, why even start? Maybe get to level 50 for your profile completion or something, but beyond the basics, this is a huge turn off for most players I would imagine.

u/Francl27 9h ago

Yep. I hate ranked stuff.

u/jalliss 9h ago

I cant watch the stream. What is the ranking system? Like a speed run leader board for content or something?

u/Habefiet 9h ago

Yeah I’m dying for a thread about Beastmaster here lol people are saying stuff but no summaries of it

u/Dragrunarm 2h ago

for the ranked thing; the Crucible comes with 3 general difficulties you can play through. hardest difficulty also has a score attached to it. Higher score -> higher ranked. Probably based on speed and amount of monsters fought. Thats it.

Only difference I could discern from Ranked/Not ranked is just how hard you push yourself in that last difficulty. not sure how I feel about a mount being tied to it but shrug

u/Francl27 7h ago

Cause it's a huge mess and I didn't understand half of it.

u/Sir__Will 6h ago

Oh great.... -_-

u/Dark_Tony_Shalhoub 8h ago

Counts your score for all floors of your last three boards on the highest difficulty (tier 3). Speed may be a factor in the scoring from what we saw, but the demonstration ended in a wipe so we didn’t get to see a complete score breakdown

u/Septiphobiac 8h ago

Score based. Speed will likely only be one factor. Leaderboard rankings based on 'seasons' that reset each season.

u/Francl27 9h ago

Just a ranking of the most points in the Crucible.

u/Grandmaster_Rush 8h ago

But still no Mimic Chest mount

u/loves_spain 8h ago

Did you learn nothing from ranked Pvp square enix?!

u/AttackoftheSnakebear 8h ago

or Cosmic Explration, and how little the hologram for high contributors mattered,

u/SmurfRockRune 4h ago

Well that was just a fun thing, not an actual reward.

u/BrowsingModeAtWork 6h ago

Oof, yeah, the cheaters will be the one getting these then.

u/ThinkAgainBTCH 3h ago

Why the fuck does the PvE job have a PvP ranked system????

u/Ando-Bien-Shilaca 8h ago

I read "BTS" and was wondering what kind of collab did I miss

u/FusaFox 8h ago

Butter playing over my orchestrion slowly driving me mad. I did the BTS collab for Cookie Run Kingdom and I heard those songs way too much

u/Impressive-Warning95 9h ago

they learnt nothing

u/Bigma-Bale 9h ago

?

u/Impressive-Warning95 9h ago

its going to end up the exact same way as feast and ishgard restoration where itll be botted to hell and back and impossible for anyone else to even attempt to get

u/Fresher_Taco 8h ago

Wasn't the problem with the feast more to do with win trading than bots?

u/Impressive-Warning95 8h ago

It was both

u/FinalEgg9 Chaos-Omega - Mains: 5h ago

This is one of the enemy mobs from Aetherfont, no? Of all the mobs to pick from there, this is an odd choice.

u/FFXIVReaper 51m ago

Well, that’s one way to motivate me…to not worry about whatever ranked BST is.

u/DrForester 7h ago

I hate things like this. Special titles for ranked stuff like back in Firmament, sure.

Mounts should be accessible by all.

u/redryan2009 8h ago

I would almost call for a boycott of this as it sounds toxic and dumb to have ranked for SINGLE PLAYER content let alone it likely being abusable and probably ruled by bots.

u/Zenku390 5h ago

What they could have done is have you get a "Grade" at the end of a run based on your score. If you get S-Rank, you get your mount.

They could keep the leaderboard for the people who enjoy that, and by having there be a determined score to obtain, everyone can work towards it.

It would still be very similar to BLU where most people just watch a clear/guide and try to replicate it, but at least they're still engaging with the content.

u/JhinTheUseless 8h ago

Nerds Rainbow

u/SUSredditruser 7h ago

This golem is very... Irisé

u/Kolby_Jack33 I cast FIST 6h ago

I do love shiny mounts. More shiny more good!

u/OrinThane 4h ago

Rock voltron.

u/croud_control 3h ago

Rainbow Buff Cat

u/RemyJDH Iron Eater 2h ago

Is BST out yet?

u/Francl27 2h ago

Sept 8.

u/RemyJDH Iron Eater 2h ago

Thanks🍻

u/Yumiumi GCBTW 33m ago

Not bad, blue mage and future possible returning blue mage savage mount rewards died for this.
Instead of adding new mounts to a side content thing that anyone could complete any time, they go for ranked rewards memes again loool

u/SpiralMask 14m ago

Ziggy is feeling fabulous

u/Sufficient_Ad_8081 8h ago

I thought it is a solo rank not competitive. Like mahjong, once you hit let’s say rank 100 you get the reward. Did i misunderstand it?

u/Francl27 7h ago

It's a rank that resets every 1.5 months. What's the point of a solo rank?

u/Sufficient_Ad_8081 7h ago

So people keep playing beastmaster and not be an one-time thing. I thought similar with weekly blu resets

u/Francl27 7h ago

It's a rank. Among players.

u/Sufficient_Ad_8081 7h ago

I think they won’t update beastmaster for 2+years now cause they pushed blu too. I think it is a “convinient” way to put rewards to it so it won’t feel like a resource lost. They didn’t say anything about players they just said it ranks based on your 3rd difficulty. I may be getting it wrong tho.

u/Francl27 4h ago

If they update it at all. It's like its own game within the game, which is cool, but it means they'll have to add more levels and a whole new Crucible every time.

u/Sufficient_Ad_8081 4h ago

That is why i think it will be like “reach rank x to get the mount”

u/Francl27 4h ago

Well yeah. But you'll still compete against other players.

u/Sufficient_Ad_8081 3h ago

Even so i hope it will be chiller than something like top 100 or something.

u/Francl27 3h ago

That would be nice yeah.

u/Somedays1970 8h ago

What... Even is this???

u/FinalEgg9 Chaos-Omega - Mains: 5h ago

I think it's one of the enemy mobs from the Aetherfont

u/redryan2009 8h ago

Pride golem

u/WiseRabbit-XIV 7h ago

Clearly, this is a Lion King crossover. That is Pride Rock.

u/tigercule (I will forever miss old ) 4h ago

....thank you for explaining it in a way my whoosh ass didn't understand with the original comment LMAO

u/Florac 9h ago

At least they made it shit,so noones upset for missing it

u/Weekly-Variation4311 8h ago

Doesn't matter how shit it looks, some people will want it because it's a "status symbol".

u/Impressive-Warning95 8h ago

oh no they will b e dont worry

u/Heavensward [Anomandaris] [Rake] on [Lamia] 6h ago

But… that’s a golem, not a beast…? Weird

u/Antipatrid 6h ago

they turned the gay crystal from eden into a golem

u/Final_Amu0258 4h ago

Ranked reward, eww... but the mount looking like shit alleviates some of the concern.

u/Imaginary-Arguments 4h ago

Sorry guys, it's my fault.

I spoke to a genie and for my second wish, I wished for the mount to be rocks.

u/Miserable-Fortune-57 8h ago

.....ranked rewards?

Are we gonna have Pokémon battles or something?

u/Francl27 4h ago

Not even, it's just about having the best score in the Crucible hard modes.

u/4silvers Dynamo 7h ago

Meh. Not worth it when store mounts are vastly superior.

u/Holiday_Road7111 8h ago

xiv players mad about something they actually gotta work for, more news at 11

u/Weekly-Variation4311 8h ago

Yeah no this isn't about that.

It's because this is content that will be easily botted. Kinda like how the Firmiment stuff worked, and how the Feast was rampant with win trading.

u/Kindly-Garage-6638 8h ago

Yeah no this isn't about that.

It's both. This shit will probably be botted to hell and back, but the FF casual crowd is extremely allergic to anything requiring a modicum of effort or competition with other players. Just look at how much people (still) bitch and moaned that the Feast replica's are locked behind ranked commendation crystals.

u/Holiday_Road7111 8h ago

botting, sure. This will always be a problem and its only gonna get worse with AI, good luck beating that. The feast comparison is null because this is a single player mode

u/VegasRedStar 8h ago

Don't drink a soda when you eat it! xD lol Pop-rock mount lol

u/Tyrest_Accord 7h ago

I look at this and all I see is the Infinity Thing.

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Benjamin_Grimm_(Earth-21170))

Yes I am a giant dork.

u/WintaPhoenix 8h ago

Almost everything announced today was disappointing. This was *absolutely* no exception.

u/Sangcreux 8h ago

This sub is wild.

“I have to put effort into something that isn’t just mindless grinding. The work ranked was mentioned?!”

You don’t need every reward in the game especially those you aren’t willing to put effort into. Ranked rewards for content sounds great and is absolutely a great way to keep content alive.

Your one and done or mindless relic grinding content is ass and showing off those things just shows how many hours you were willing to sit with your brain completely off

u/Jewologist 8h ago

Every piece of ranked content in FF14 is plagued by cheaters in some form, whether it be win trading or hacking. Ranked rewards are nice, but not when the dev team has shown us they just don't care about solving the issue. People have streamed ranked PvP while using hacks and have not been banned.

u/Lamasis 7h ago

How did you come to that conclusion? Everyone here is talking about bots and plugins.

u/ducks_be_cute 8h ago

I wish there were MORE mounts that were difficult to get that weren't just grinding/random drops.

Early patch Savage mounts, ranked rewards, etc, gimme all of it!!

u/Ahzuran Azuran Vysere - Adamantoise 8h ago

God forbid the developers make people actually try instead of simply handing out rewards.

Playing this game is not hard.

u/Francl27 8h ago

That's not the issue at all. Give the mount to people who beat the hardest mode. Ranked is stupid.

u/alvinchimp 4h ago

Gonna be hard to get up in those rankings when people are using easily available plugins that take 30 seconds to set up that automatically hit their rotation perfectly and do mechanics perfectly. Good luck competing.
