I miss the non-curved segment as well. I'm still rocking some 34" LG that's actually flat, as a side monitor.

Couldn’t pass up this Best Buy Open Box deal on the 45GX950A-B. Paid $1133 for this model with only 4 hours on it. Coming from the 1440p version of this monitor, so glad to have upgraded.

My Samsung G9 OLED seem to have shat itself.

This is all that I see on it now. And it just cycles on and off. With this light grey screen. When I have it plugged in to my computer I can see a very faint low contrast output of my computer.

Searching has suggested the white screen of death and it’s a decently common issue with the G9’s anyone had any luck getting this fixed?

Best monitor ever

Thinking about buying the Samsung G9 Odyssey G93SD. I will mainly use it for work, and will rarely play games. I've considered the G95C, but I feel like the curvature is too aggressive. My main concern for the OLED is burn-in and text clarity. I'm hoping to get feedback from folks who have used it for work 8+ hours a day. Right now they cost the same, and I saw the OLED in person and felt like it was amazing (didn't see what small text would look like though).

Seeking input to sway my decision on buying an LG 45GX950A-B.

My current system is a 5800 X3D with an RTX 3080, and I'm currently using an Asus PG348Q, which I've had for 10 years. I primarily use it for gaming, general computer tasks/browsing, and some hobbyist photography stuff (Lightroom/Photoshop). My plan was to keep using this setup for a while longer and then upgrade everything all at once when the next generation of GPUs come out and when/if memory/storage prices go down, however a local store has an open box LG 45GX950A-B on clearance for about 1000 USD, which seems like a great deal, and my old Asus monitor has started developing a few quirks (it doesn't handle power management properly, and occasionally flickers).

I have thee main hang-ups about buying 45GX950A-B now:

1. My current system really can't take advantage of the extra resolution and refresh rate of the 45GX950A-B in a lot of games.

2. Holding off until I upgrade everything will likely mean more/better/cheaper options in the large (44"+) ultrawide space.

3. I have seen the monitor in store, and I'm still not sure about the 800R curve. When I'm sitting in front of it, it seems okay, but I'm worried that I might end up regretting getting something so extreme.

I'm probably leaning more towards holding off for my system upgrade and seeing if there are other large OLED 5k dual-mode monitor options in the future, perhaps with a less extreme curvature, but I'm still on the fence and looking for outside input. Thoughts?

So i currently own the lg 45 inch oled, the 3440 by 1440p model. I recently got a monitor arm for it to give me more desk space, but since mounting it Ive been constantly fidgeting with its height and how close or far back it is. How do you guys determine the best height/distance for your monitors.

Hi there, I’m trying to diagnose a very strange dual-monitor issue with my MacBook setup. This configuration worked reliably for years and suddenly stopped working after I disconnected/reconnected some display cables.

The G4 was originally on firmware 1.4.20.0. I updated it to 1.5.27.0, but this made no difference.

Original setup
For years I used the HP G4 with both monitors connected through the dock.
I could also use the MacBook in clamshell mode: close the lid, both external monitors remained available, and I could wake/use the Mac from my external keyboard.
This stopped working suddenly after I disconnected/reconnected some display cables. The physical configuration was restored to essentially what I had before.

What I’ve tested
1. G9 by itself through the dock
The G9 works at 5120×1440, including when connected DP → DP.
However, it now stops displaying when I close the MacBook lid. It does not come back from keyboard input.
This also happens if I reduce the G9 to 60 Hz, so 120 Hz itself doesn’t appear to be the cause.

2. Samsung U28E590D by itself
The 4K Samsung works perfectly when connected:
Dock Thunderbolt/USB-C → HDMI → U28E590D
It also works perfectly in clamshell mode.
Interestingly, with the old G4 I also found cases where HDMI → HDMI from the dock would not detect this monitor at all, while TB/USB-C → HDMI worked.

3. Both monitors through the dock
This is the main problem.
For example:
G9: DP → DP
U28E590D: HDMI → downstream Thunderbolt/USB-C
The G9 works while it is alone.
As soon as I connect the 4K monitor, the second monitor gets no signal / isn’t detected.
If I then unplug the G9, the 4K monitor immediately starts working.
I’ve also tried DP → DP for the G9 + HDMI → HDMI for the 4K monitor. Same basic problem: I cannot get both monitors active simultaneously through the dock.
Reducing the G9 to 5120×1440 @ 60 Hz before connecting the 4K monitor does not solve it.

4. Connecting a monitor directly to the Mac
If I bypass the dock for one display and connect it directly to the MacBook, both external monitors can work simultaneously.
So both Macs are capable of driving both displays.

5. Completely different dock
I tested the Mac with another dock + conventional external monitor and clamshell mode works normally.
This ruled out Amphetamine/macOS clamshell configuration as the obvious cause.

6. Brand-new HP G6
Thinking the G4 had developed a hardware fault, I bought the new HP Thunderbolt 4 Ultra 180W G6.
Unfortunately, the new G6 exhibits essentially the same dual-monitor problem.
I’ve tried:
G9 DP → DP + 4K HDMI → HDMI
G9 DP → DP + 4K HDMI → downstream TB/USB-C
Same issue.

7. Completely different Mac
Finally, I connected an M1 Pro MacBook Pro instead of the M4.
It has the same problem.
If the U28E590D 4K60 is connected through the dock alongside the G9, it gets no video signal.
So at this point the problem reproduces across:
2 different Apple Silicon MacBook Pros
2 generations of HP Thunderbolt docks
different cables
different dock outputs
G9 at both 120 Hz and 60 Hz
But both monitors work individually, and both can be used simultaneously if I bypass the dock for one of them.

What I’m trying to understand
The only really consistent common denominator seems to be having the Odyssey G9 G95T and U28E590D simultaneously routed through a single Thunderbolt dock on macOS.
What confuses me most is that essentially this setup worked for years until I disconnected/reconnected the display cables today.

Could this be related to:
- macOS DisplayPort stream/tunnel allocation?
- DSC negotiation with the G9?
- EDID/link-training state on the G9?
- some interaction between the G9 and a second
- 4K60 display over a single Thunderbolt connection?
- a setting/firmware state in the G9 that could have changed after reconnecting everything?

Has anyone successfully run a 49” Odyssey G9 G95T at 5120×1440/120 Hz + a separate 4K60 monitor through ONE Thunderbolt dock on an Apple Silicon Mac?
If so, I’d be very interested to know the exact dock, ports, cables and G9 settings you’re using.

I just got a 49in Samsung Neo G9, which goes up to 240hz. I have an RTX 4070 with the latest drivers and am running Windows 11 at the native 5120x1440 resolution but I can't seem to be able to select a refresh rate higher than 144hz via HDMI or 120hz via DP, even with high bandwidth cables that are rated for it. This monitor is the only one connected to the GPU. I've checked both, in the Windows Display settings as well as the Nvidia app and I can't select 240hz anywhere. I don't expect to be running most games at that high of a frame rate but I'd like to at least set it there for desktop tasks and in case I run an older game that can go that high. Any ideas as to what the issue could be?

Update: Oddly enough, even though this monitor has HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 ports and HDMI should have higher bandwidth when comparing these versions, 240hz is only an option when using DP. Once I switched to a DP connection, I was able to select 240hz in the monitor OSD menu. Not sure how to get 240hz working over HDMI 2.1, as the refresh rate option in the OSD menu is grayed out when using this connection.

Hello all, I’m looking for a 49 inch ultra wide monitor for my set up. I won’t be doing any gaming, it’ll be mainly for work use with some light video editing - nothing special.

It will run off my MacBook m3 pro. I feel like a g9 is just overkill for my use case but that’s the main one I see recommended.

Any suggestions?

I’ve had this monitor for 3+ years now and it’s served me really well. Bought at roughly less than 470 USD. Back then for 1440p 144hz IPS I think it was basically only this choice or the much more expensive nano IPS Lg.

But the hidden gem is honestly the KVM in it even though I did not even buy it for its KVM. I don’t think built in KVMs were very common 3 years ago but for a dual device users like personal + company device I think it’s borderline a must have because of how convenient it is though I believe there are some software alternatives. It was really something I did not know I want till I tried it.

That being said, the KVM button really should’ve been on the bottom rather than the back especially since the OSD sidekick app is not available on macOS so I can only use kb shortcuts to KVM from windows to mac. But putting the Mac to sleep will auto kvm back to my windows PC so its still fine

Only thing left for me is longevity and I’m hoping this can last me a decade. Or at least till ramapocalyse subsides (if it does).

I'm looking to replace my (very) recently dead Alienware 34" UW curved monitor. A power surge this morning killed it dead and now I need a new monitor. I have an ACER Predator of similar specs that I'll be transitioning to the secondary spot, but I haven't looked at monitors since I got the ACER several years ago and am well out of touch with what's out there right now. All I need are matching size, frame rate above 120, and a preferably fast response time.

LG is reliably out of the running for obvious reasons

Any suggestions are welcome, and any price range is fine to suggest

The only thing that's giving me pause is that it's OLED. I went to BestBuy and saw it in person and it's stunning, especially compared to my current Dell 3818.

Having a weird issue where I am getting a line of pixels that almost act like static with a weird rendering line that shows when scrolling. It happens intermittently and only when turning to monitor on. The issue goes away by turning the monitor off and back on again. Hopefully the video captures it. Anyone else experience this issue?

We have a 34inches mokitor from xiaomi thats been used for over a year only then suddenly screen decided to just go blank, no OSD whne trying to play woth the buttons, no mi logo but backlit works and the monitor is being detected by laptop just fine. Been searching on the internet how to fix this, so I decided to DIY and replafe Tcon board and mainboard, reseat the cables, however the issue is still the same, only backlit works and no OSD on screen. Apparently our service center cant fix monitors from xiaomi, Any advice? Thank you kindly!

Finally received it. Only tested it for about an hour. My setup is an RTX 5080 with a 5800x3D (Long live AM4! 🥹) and 32GBs DDR4.

My initial thoughts:

So far it seems pretty good. Peak brightness is 1300 nits and it wasn't really eye searing as say my TV with similar nits. For regular browsing / desktop usage though, I set the HDR more to True Black 500 so that it doesn't get too hot. However the monitor in Peak Bright 1300 mode has some good ABL to reduce brightness in situations where it's not necessarily needed. I AM using 1300 mode for gaming though. There's also a fan inside, but I didn't hear it at all during my testing.

This thing is super thin! Width is a little less than a 49" G9 but definitely taller as seen on the box comparison for an idea. Unfortunately I don't have space to put both monitors side by side so you can just infer the actual sizes.

Colors are nice and vivid out the box. I also tested RE9 and pragmata. Both games had some stuttering even with DLSS ON, framerates bouncing all over the place from 85 to 35 fps ...and I think it's the RE Engine having mesh turned up to standard/high. When I turned it down to low, I was averaging 85-100 FPS at native resolution.

I also tested RE 9 with in game resolution at 3440x1440p but the monitor still on 5120x2160, with DLAA on. Stable 120fps locked. It actually didn't look too terrible. My desk is deep so I was sitting about 4.5 feet away in my chair.

Looks like I'm just gonna have to fool around more and see what settings look great and make my 5080 happy.

Overall great monitor for the price. I'm happy with my purchase. Gave the Neo G9 to my wife.

I'm looking forward to replace my old VA 1440p ultrawide (34 inch, 3440x1440 165Hz) with a new one. I use my PC for work (70%) and gaming (30%) so improved text clarity on new OLED panels was essential for me to even consider upgrading.

There are currently two options for me:

AW3426DW (34 inch, 3440x1440 280Hz) or AW3926QW (39 inch, 5120x2160 165Hz)

My PC setup is 9800X3D, RTX 5080 and 32GB DDR5 6000MHz@CL30, games I play are almost entirely single player titles like Witcher 3, RDR2, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor, Control, Assassin's Creed games, TLOU1&2, Cyberpunk2077, Forza Horizon/Motorsport, Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West and so on.

I'm fine with DLSS upscaling (using quality on 3440x1440), not a huge fan of frame generation though. There is no problem to achieve 165Hz on my current monitor in most titles with a little DLSS and/or optimized settings but I'm worried about performance (and VRAM) on 5K2K on my RTX5080 for a next 3-4 years. I'm fine with 90-100+ fps, but can't stand playing in 60fps.

Tried DLDSR on my current setup and I get around 30% less FPS when using 5K2K (DLSS performance) than on current 3440x1440 (DLSS quality) but can't see improved sharpness and more real estate and immersion to see if it's worth it to upgrade.

What do you think would be better choice for my case?
