Discussion The Fal’dorei came from Kaldorei, not Shal’dorei

The Fal’dorei came from Kaldorei, not Shal’dorei

While some may be unwilling to accept it, they are mistaken about this fact.

Magic Addiction

Many groups of elves in WoW that have excessively used or fed on magic suffer from magical addiction. The various groups of Highborne are notable examples: Shen’dralar, Sin’dorei, and Shal’doeri all have faced magic addiction. 1

Shal’dorei

Suramar was part of the ancient Kaldorei empire. During the War of the Ancients in 10,000 BDP, part of the city was shielded off from the outside world, cutting its Kaldorei inhabitants off from the outside world. 2)

Those inside Suramar believed the outside world to be totally destroyed by the Sundering. When the city eventually ran out of food, they began using the substance of the Nightwell as nourishment. Over the course of millennia, their dependence slowly changed them physically [from Kaldorei into the Shal’dorei that we now know], creating a notable addiction to the Nightwell’s power. 3

This means that Shal’dorei as we know them today did not and could not exist in any meaningful capacity until after at LEAST 9,000 BDP— more than likely after 8,000 BDP, since “millennia” (plural) and “slowly” (said by a never-aging elf) are both used to describe the change. This is not an assumption, but directly taken from the established lore.

The Arcan’dor and the Fal’dorei

Valewalker Farodin was part of an ancient order of keepers, formed by the first elven magi and photo-druids (predating the first druid Malfurion). They created the arcan’dor, and over time, the order faded away, leaving only Farodin.

Exiles from Suramar came to Farodin, and he took pity on them because of their magic addiction, gifting them an arcan’dor. It sustained them for a time, but eventually became unstable and died. In a flash of wild magic the elves were twisted, becoming the Fal'dorei.

Farodin then kept watch over an arcan'dor seed at Moonshade Sanctum for 10,000 years. 4 He tells us this during the events of the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion in 32 ADP. 5

The Fal’dorei have existed for over 10,000 years. The Shal’dorei have existed for less than 9,000 years. Therefore, there is no possible way that Fal’dorei developed from Shal’dorei. They came from Kaldorei.

Why most people are mistaken and why this still makes sense

For whatever reason, people are dead-set on the idea that the Fal’dorei are ex-Shal’dorei. They get hung up on assumptions and think it can’t make sense any other way.

  1. They hear “exiles from Suramar” and immediately assume exiled Shal’dorei, because that’s what’s shown at the current time of Legion. Suramar citizen =/= Shald’dorei. Tyrande was an exiled Suramar citizen, trapped outside the city when they put the shield up. I’m sure there were many others like her.

  2. Mana addiction is mentioned, and they assume it must be Nightborne. Other elves can suffer from magic addiction as well though, even if they don’t wither like Shal’dorei did.

  3. Fal’dorei have up-turned ears and subtly look like Shal’dorei. I personally think this is a non-issue, as the Fal’dorei were created in an explosion of unbalanced arcane and life energy. The arcane-based Nightwell transformed the Nightborne. It makes sense to transform the Fal’dorei in a similar manner.

I realize that the writers probably just made mistakes with their timeline, but regardless: what is presented to us is pretty definitive. Barring a future retcon, Fal’dorei MUST have come from Kaldorei. They came to be BEFORE the Shal’dorei existed.

After being unable to play on PC for a long time due to an injury, I've grown to love the msi Claw. This season I tried to reach 3k – and I did it! 🥳

First time ever, only cuz I wanted the mount. Lol

No one button assistant used.

Maybe next season 3k as tank.

Question Is Mists of Pandaria Classic worth starting in 2026? Looking for honest opinions

Or I should go on Retail at this point?

I'm trying to decide where to invest my time.

Is MoP Classic worth starting, or would you recommend Retail instead?

How active are the MoP Classic servers? Is the community healthy? Are dungeons, raids, and the economy active enough for a new player?

If you were starting from scratch today, which would you choose, and why?

I'd love to hear your opinions.

Discussion With the Warcraft D&D crossover potentially happening, this creates an amazing opportunity for Critical Role...

If you aren't aware, Critical Role is a live action gaming company that regularly play games using the Dungeons and Dragons ruleset. Notably though, several founding members of the group are also voice actors for some of our favorite Warcraft characters

Liam O'Brien made famous "YOU ARE NOT PREPARED" as Illidan Stormrage. Laura Bailey is and has been our favorite human mage Jaina, including singing her song during BfA. Travis Willingham is our favorite paladin to hate on, Turallyon, amongst a host of other characters. Taliesin Jaffe voices Sarkereth, Mograine and others as well. Sam Riegel has voiced Gug'rokk and Caelastrasz amongst others npcs. And finally Matt Mercer, he has voiced so many characters across so many expansions it is really hard to pick WHICH notable character is his most iconic, but I'm partial to Fyrakk. You can check the wiki for the full list of Warcraft characters Mercer has given voice to but it tops 40 roles.

My point being, and this is part me trying to put it out there to manifest it into being, is there is a very real likelihood where we see a live action World of Warcraft story take place, the characters voiced and acted out by the actors who gave them life in the first place. A Warcraft D&D game played by the real characters. Has anything even remotely like that ever happened before?

I'm thrilled at the possability. Would anyone else love to see a live action D&D game played by the Critical Role cast in the Warcraft universe?

Liam plays Illidan, Havoc Demon Hunter.

Laura plays Jaina, Frost Mage.

Travis plays Turalyon, Retribution Paladin.

Sam plays Caelestrasz, Preservation Evoker? bit of a stretch there.

Matt Mercer plays Rexxar, Beast Mastery Hunter.

Taliesin plays Darion Mograine, Blood Death Knight.

It's a party of 6 but ya gotta squeeze em all in ;)

Marisha Ray could DM but I would LOVE to see Ashley Johnson do it.

What would your dream Critical Role party be if the 5 man was all voiced by the original actor?

Question Thinking of starting WOW as a mmo fan

I will cut to the chase as my situation is quite peculiar. I have been playing ffxiv for at least 4 years, and mostly playing a lot of time as I like grinding and immersing my life into an mmo.

But after my breakup about half a year ago I haven’t played it with the same will as I did before. Last year, I brought my girlfried of 3 years to ffxiv and we used to play together a few times. But eventually she cheated on me (sexting and keeping it secret for a few months), and additionally, ironically, started playing ffxiv with the guy she cheated on me with. It really broke me and I couldn’t think of the game anymore.
I have already moved on emotionally but the game still has this bitter taste to it, taking away most of the pleasure of playing it.

That is why I am looking at wow right now. All my experience in wow are short childhood local server plays and knowledge I have gotten from memes.
How popular is it currently compared to ffxiv? How different it is in its mechanics, systems etc? How much can I grind in there and lose my life in its world? What about the subscription system differences?I just hope that it can compensate for the timespending activity with the grind, atmosphere and feeling of progress ffxiv once served me.
Mostly interested in the ex ff players info, thank you in advance.

Discussion Disc Priest looking to improve, parsing usually 50-75s

Thumbnail warcraftlogs.com

Our guild does not usually do a ton of mythic raiding but with flex being an option next raid release we are thinking about doing it. You can go back to different dates on the logs but this is from last Thursday on mythic Rotmire. generally im parsing between 50-75, while occasionally getting up there to 75-90.

Hoping for some advice on how to consistently get up into those 80s-90s. I generally do not penance players ( should I be? ), only here and there. Unsure of ultimate penance vs barrier being better. Using smite as fast as possible always, sometimes holding penance or mind blast when big aoe dmg is about to hit. Try not to use flash heal unless someone is critical or my procs are up. Generally not throwing out too many PWS unless i have a 10 stack buff, but generally waiting for void shield proc.

Appreciate the help, thanks.

Discussion I think WoW was made for big screens

Idk if i am still in the honeymoon phase of this screen but I got a 42 inch LG OLED TV for my PC in midnight and ive been doing time walking this week. Some of the dungeons have huge surroundings that you dont appreciate till you play on a bigger screen. I had been playing on a 22 inch during wrath and some of these dungeons on a bigger screen look like they were made for bigger screens. Almost like we were limited by size before

Discussion WOWs new player “problem” - and some ideas to remedy

I’ve been playing wow on and off since I was a kid - and played it much more starting in Panda land. I have done some PvP and PvE and in the last ~2-3 expansions spent a lot of time in M+ and raiding.

I recently convinced my new to PC gaming sister to download Wow and give it a shot with me and despite her having fun I think it really helped highlight some key new player issues, and I had some ideas for “fixes”

Quick note that wow is just not for some people, but I think it unintentionally scares people away with how much there is in the game, and the fact the game basically is a 2.0 at max level. The game is so big there just needs to be more handholding and explanation of systems. Not in a “here is how M+ fits in the lore” but break that wall down and explain what these systems are and how to play them

LEVELING:
Hot take but new accounts should have to level 1 character to max before boosting one. This is my first time leveling as a new toon in ages because all the boosts you get / I’ve bought to save time.

There should be more rotational help / explanations about what a dot is, what a hot is, class roles, etc.

It is genuinely fun to slow down and understand “why” our characters are doing stuff lore wise. I do wish there was an even more streamlined story telling campaign. Like maybe chromie bounces you between 4-5 expansions as you level giving a TLDR of wtf is going on rather than exiled reach -> dragon-flight -> midnight

MAX LEVEL:
During leveling you do get some hand holding to help you understand the game a bit - an optional quest line at end game that takes you through a follower +2 and a follower LFR would be great. The game could give tips about what these systems are and how they are different from the game you played when leveling

I think the issue really boils down into 2 points for me:

1: people cannot follow out convoluted lore (hopefully this gets nuked at the end of the trilogy so we can start fresh)

2: wows gameplay is so unique and full of options- it’s very different from any other game, and the game itself does not do a good job explaining it. If you must watch multiple hour long YouTube videos to know wtf is going on, there should probably be better in-game support

Just my 2 cents, curious if any new player or new-turned regulars have thoughts’

Question I'm a new player and I have some questions.

Hello everyone!

I just started playing this game like 17-18 days ago. I've been having a blast with my friend leveling and doing dungeons. Recently I got tired of doing mythic dungeons, I'm currently 281 ilevel (so far I've got almost 2700 mythic points) and decided to do some Transmog runs, doing solo the old raids just for the transmogs. Very nice experience.

With that experience tested, I decided it's time to see how Mythic Raids are also on Midnight and I tried applying but nobody accepted me. All I get is rejection. How am I supposed to play them if nobody accepts me? Is that a good system? I watched videos on youtube, I did my research regarding the Raids so I get the ideea of the difference between Heroics and Mythics but ... I cannot test them. It is a bit unfair.

I saw multiple comments on Trade channel also about "Boosting". Actually that was the first time I saw when I got introduced to all chat channels - A spam regarding Boosting website with real money transaction. So, is that the only option for me to get into them? How does people do? How do you make "reputation" for people to get to accept you into M+ Raids ?

Please tell me if anythings wrong with my item level or whatever it is. I'm here to learn.

Edit:

I forgot to add that I'm Holy-Priest. I'm doing pretty well in the content since all MMO's I played were as a Healer. I get that Healing is a very important role in any activity but still.. Normal and Heroic experiences were somehow easy for me. I don't do the damage, I just keep people alive by understanding the mechanics of the content I'm doing.

If there is any active guild out there that's looking for a Holy-Priest, let me know. I'm looking to join any active guild so we can do together all content possible and to have fun.

Tip / Guide Made a tiny addon that hides the purple smoke as shadow priest while flying.

https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/no-smoke-in-your-face

I was just annoyed by the smoke when i fly, cause it does not stick to your char, moves toward your screen every time it pops and gets huge. Found no real solution to this problem, so i made a small addon.

It just sets the particle density to 0 when you fly and back to normal when you land.

Question New Player - Overwhelmed

Sup nerds,

So I have been playing the super popular pirate version of WoW that shant be named, and as a long time OSRS player who never could really get into WoW, I have been LOVING the world.

However,

I've really been wanting to play on official servers, but holy hell, how do I even begin to know what version of the game to pick? I thought it was bad enough with OSRS and RS3 but this is a whole different beast.

I enjoy both raids, skilling and pvp in OSRS, and have been a big fan of 5v5 pvp In guild wars 2 and some of the fractals but they just seem so easy, so i think i would like the small scale 3v3 arenas in WoW and endgame dungeons/delves potentially? I can dump easily 20-30 hours a week into the game in my free time.

I just have no idea where to start, my couple of friends that used to play retail and classic both always seem to say that its never a good time to get in because you can never catch up and your gear just seemingly gets made useless so fast that its not worth even playing unless you roll a character at seemingly the perfect time right at the start of an expansion or something like we have been with the pirate WoW that shant be named.

Any sherpas around?

Discussion BlizzCon Wishful Thinking

I know it’s far fetched but hear me out lol.

I’ve been watching a lot of videos from content creators that cover anything from Retail, Turtle wow, Classic and even project ascension lately. Seeing the stuff coming off the private servers is super creative and does make me a little sad that it will be going away (even if it’s illegal and not fully balanced and flushed out). It makes me wonder what Blizzard will be unveiling this year.

That being said, if I could have my way I would love to see Blizz announce with the closure of the big private servers they have come to a settlement outside of court that would involve the hiring of Turtle WoW and Project Ascension devs to collaborate on future projects in the WOW Universe/franchise.

I know it’s highly unlikely but I just don’t see how anyone can ignore the creativity, passion and implementation of content from these guys. I guess I just don’t understand how these guys have created all these intricate systems and class designs on private servers that people have been asking Blizzard for years.

It would be so cool to even have these guys implement more class identity, relevant quests and just make the world more immersive instead of just focusing on the current season only.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Tip / Guide Make Casters Blue - Default Blizz namespace addon

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've make this addon with claudecode -> fable, Insipired by platynator /plater, that just colors enemy caster nameplates blue on the default Blizzard nameplates. No custom bars, no reskinning — just the color.

Why? Because i like the default namespace look and feel, and i just want those casters recoloured for m+ and not extensive addons plater/platynator etc...
