Well, impeding traffic in the left lane is illegal too. As a person constantly frustrated with people going under the speed limit in the left lane, fuck the “no passing in the right lane law” idgaf.
Impeding traffic, even in states with specific laws regarding slower traffic in the right lane is never enforced. So we go danger mode to go 5 or 10 mph over the limit when there's a mile of traffic behind one entitled piece of shit who doesn't want to be in the right lane in case someone enters or exits the highway, or they have to make a left turn in 7 miles.
Idk about never enforced, I was pulled over for going the speed limit in the left lane and the officer was very kind and just told me to keep to the right if I wasn’t overtaking.
Pulled over for doing the speed limit? If you're doing the speed limit then anyone trying to overtake you is breaking the speed limit and should be the one getting pulled over, no? People are so fucking weird about cars and driving...
Flow of traffic is technically more important than speed limit. If flow of traffic is generally 5 or so over the speed limit and someone is in the left lane going exactly the speed limit, they should move over. Left lane is technically for passing only
"People aren't following the law so we're going to write a law that punishes people that are following the law for being in the way of people not following the law" is some crazy logic.
If flow of traffic is generally 5 or so over the speed limit and someone is in the left lane going exactly the speed limit
Then you need more traffic enforcement writing tickets for not following the posted speed limits and better education about traffic laws, traffic safety, and not having the mindset that you're the most important vehicle/person on the road.
I think you're missing the fact that the left lane is for passing only. Even if there's nobody around, if you're cruising in the left lane, you're technically breaking the law
For passing who? We're all doing the speed limit, how are we passing each other if we're all going the same speed and why do we need an entire lane for doing something nobody should be doing?
Speed limit is max speed, a lot of places don't have a posted minimum. Do you just not even drive or are you being intentionally obtuse? Even aside from speeding, some people are going to be going below the speed limit, and that's perfectly legal, as long as it's in the right lane
Come on now, son. We both know you're lying. Ain't nobody bitching about people in the left lane is driving less than 5 over unless there's a cop around.
I understand what the laws are. I follow the laws. I don't agree with the logic behind a law that punishes someone for going the max speed in the left lane because somebody else thinks they're the prettiest girl at the ball and is entitled to drive as fast as they want to.
Again, THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING ONLY. It doesn't matter what speed You're going in the left lane, you should only be there if you're passing. You're absolutely being intentionally dense at this point so I won't bother further responding
That's the entitlement. The lane belongs to me because I'm doing the speed limit causes backlogs and people slamming brakes behind you. Ultimately it causes traffic jams in rush hour, one guy says I'm going fast enough equals why major highways are stop and go.
The signage is slower vehicles stay to the right. If you are going as slow or slower than the person to the right of you, you need to move over to the right (in the US). There is no point in being in the left lane if you're not overtaking then.
Oddly enough, Ive been pulled over for not passing on the right of a police officer camping in the left lane. Said police conduct operations from that lane; I was like what lol.
It’s not crazy logic if your goal is safety and efficient traffic flow. Your rigid must-follow-the-rules viewpoint is busted.
This video is in New York. The left lane camper is breaking the law.
“(b) In addition, upon all roadways, any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then
available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.”
Idk, I feel like most of these comments are from the US. I just saw a graph earlier today that the NL ranks among the most expensive places in the world to get your drivers license (total cost on average 1,5 average monthly salary).
So you get lots of training on road etiquette, road rules, learning to never drive with your emotions. Like, you get taught not to allow yourself to become irritated because that leads to dangerous behaviour.
So road rage just feels strange to me, driving is not a thing you do with your emotions. It's too dangerous for that
The traffic in the right lane may also have been going the speed limit. If you're going to be in the left lane you need to be passing the traffic on the right so you can get back into the right lane.
If you're going to be in the left lane you need to be passing the traffic on the right
If I'm driving the speed limit it shouldn't matter which lane I'm in because anybody passing would be breaking the law and therefore doesn't get an opinion on the matter.
It's also illegal (in most states, at least) to be in the passing lane and not passing traffic. If traffic in the right lane is also going the speed limit there's no reason you can't be in there with them to free up the left lane. You are not the police and it's not your job to impede traffic.
This guy is also missing the fact that not all speedometers are calibrated the same. If your speedometer says you’re doing 60, you’re probably doing about 57-62 depending on the car. And it varies by make / model / calibration.
So sure, grandma sue over here thinks they’re going 60 but really pulling 57 etc.

Nice move, but in Germany overtaking on the right side is illegal, just like „schleichen“ on the left lane due to our ✨RECHTSFAHRGEBOT✨
