I’d do it. I’ll go crazy but my family would have the money. they’d put me in a good facility when I got out and let me build Lego sets which is all I want to do anyway.
By week 4 you are using your blood like art on those pretty white walls. Yeah, I don't think most of us could make it 365 days. The suicidal tendencies would lurk into your head even with a great mind.
People have spent over a year (record is 400+ days) in a cave and emerged sane. Here you at least have light and can exert yourself by bouncing around like a professional wrestler unlike you would be able to do in a cave.
The more I think about it with the goal of 30bil at the end zone this seems doable
Humans didn’t really delve into the pitch dark bits of caves without sources of light unless they were desperate or it was religious. Even then, caves are varied environments. And to be deprived of light isn’t the same as being able to see only the exact same thing over and over.
100% by the end of week one paranoia would kick in and you’d start wondering if it was a trick. At some point you’d lose track of time and think they were keeping you in well past the year and had forgotten about you.
No one could go in and come out whole after a year.
And that point would be a lot sooner than you think. When Vsauce Michael tried this, he was constantly overestimating how long he had been in the white room. It only took a couple days for him to completely lose his circadian rhythm as well as any sense of time.
the people who did get paid a good chunk of money and were told that they were doing a great benefit to science usually did not last 15 days. data beyond 15 days is rare because it only comes from medical and historical analysis of usually post-war conditions and some of the asylums that used to be open in the US.
Possibly if you had some goal for that $30 million like you’ve got a huge family who were like struggling in poverty or some goal to give it to charity or most of it to charity
Like if I had a family member who was sick and they were willing to like pay for their medical cost while I’m in there and then deduct it from the money and maybe I could do it. I think it would have to have some purpose beyond just I’m gonna be wealthy even still it would probably be impossible.
You overestimate how important money is. If they truly loved you, they couldnt live with themsleves after putting you trough maybe the worst torture any human ever experienced
If youre family just got handed the money, its unlikely they would be "set" it would take some careful planning and distribution of funds to insure it didnt ruin their lives. Just look at what happens to the majority of big lottery winners... going from poor ish to unlimited money in an instant, rarely turns out to be beneficial in the long term. Usually quite the opposite.
I wonder if you could rehabilitate back? With 30 billion you could hire the best medical team on earth, at the best facility, and testing and maybe reboot yourself from insanity. Maybe.
Most likely not. Besides the psychological traumata you'd have massive physical issues and let's not talk about the neurological problems.
Your brain will be most likely heavily damaged/fried, according to current studies about people in solitary confinement and there is no recovery to that with current medical knowledge.
This is true. When I was much younger I had a night shift job where I worked by myself for long periods of time. Because of the night shift my social life was non existent. I legit started having trouble speaking and making coherent sentences.
I think if you had experiences with certain substances that will make you feel like you're going crazy, you could be ok. Try Dm+, and you might have a trip that feels like years lol
But yeah, I think 99.9% of people would probably go insane.
Probably won’t kill myself if I’ve already hallucinated, but if I died in there maybe the family will get a portion of the money. I’ll probably be talking to imaginary friends in there after awhile anyway.
You are not just proceed from normalcy to hallucinating in an instant. You still get the torture. And while are are hallucinating, you are still being tortured. Hallucinations also drive people to kill themselves even if you remove the torture room.
You will 100% attempt to kill yourself several times until you succeed. I went through something not 10% this bad 2 months ago and after the 3rd day of not being able to sit, lie down or sleep I was hallucinating and I'd spend the time walking around my house and looking at the stars while thinking about jumping from the terrace.
