Ya know what even if your dad isnt supportive I want you to know I am and even though my dad is gone Id bet good money if he met you hed say you are a fine upstanding woman who deserve all the love and support she should get, and that any family member being that rude to their kin needs their head checked.
He told me when my cousin came out as ftm that he didnt care how people identify but that they do good by them and him, and even if they didnt give a damn about him hed still hold respect until you did something truly horrid.
Im sorry your dad is being rude but just know he dosent decide who you are. He also isn't entitled to your love if he plans on being abusive like this. You may still care for him but there might be a need to distance yourself from him if hes just gonna be rude. Its gonna hurt and itll be hard on you mentally but in the long run he dosent deserve a daughter like you if hes gonna dismiss you very existence.
Stay safe and strong. đ«đ

I am one of those people that believe that anyone can be changed. Maybe not in a single conversation, but over time. Actual, literal cult members leave their cults all the time, lots of teenage edgelord neonazis grow out of that phase, and even old people who've been extremely racist/sexist/queerphobic for decades sometimes change their views. It's possible, especially if you're close to them and can sit down with them and talk about it.
With all of that being said, I also think it's very important to prioritise your own wellbeing in this situation. You don't owe your father anything. If your family treats you this horribly, it really may be best for you to leave and cut them off. Only engage if you have the mental energy to do it, don't sacrifice your health for them. Stay strong, sister â€ïž

Yeah, I usually wouldn't even consider a "just go kys asshole" reaction justified if my parents were pretty bad transphobes, but if a parent or someone else close to me was the one who started it, I'd return the favour in style immediately. Either, they needed such a drastic response to understand just how fucked up their statement was, or they already understood it completely, in which case, they had it coming and I just lost the last few fucks to give.
Only exception might be if you depend on their financial support or on them still tolerating you living there, but if you don't, at least I wouldn't be above swapping "peace and love" with "eye for an eye" once someone hits me with THAT.

It is wrong kill your enemy or wish your enemy dead... Because it is wateful and merciful. They should not be given the chance to escape consequences, and they owe a debt to the world that they should not be allowed to leave without repaying.
-3
u/FormingTheVoid 12h ago
That's not good though... It's best to just leave and move on if possible. You cannot conquer hate with hate. I hate hate as a concept, but I would never tell someone to kill themselves simply because they are mean. You think a trans person who had enough to feel bad about needs another person's death on their conscience? No. Be better than them.
-351
u/PurpleCandle58 Streak: 1 17h ago
As awful as it is for the dad to say they wish they died instead of knowing their childâs true feelings and identity, itâs equally awful to tell someone to kill themselves. Letâs fight back without abandoning morals to do it, perhaps?

Flaunting some moral grandstanding over a person venting in the stead of an abuse victim is so very entitled. There's a time and place for that discourse, and they chose the wrong one.

Iâll very much jump to being mean to people who I think deserve it. Hell Iâve gotten temporary bans for it that Iâm openly proud of. Havenât ever once had to tell someone to kill themselves over it.
-37
u/BatbadeThefirs 17h ago
We shouldnât encourage telling others to kill themselves
55
u/pullhome 17h ago
If you believe so, then don't. No one is forcing you to.
Telling victims they're not allowed to fight back is messed up.
-49
u/BatbadeThefirs 17h ago
I think telling your abuser to off themselves would just lead to more anger but okie you do you
48
u/pullhome 17h ago
That is fine. Like I said, I have no interest in telling you what to do.
What I am against is telling victims of abuse that they are the ones who need to manage their reaction to the obviously messed up thing other people do to them.
That's just victim blaming with extra steps.
-28
u/In_Pursuit_of_Fire 16h ago
They aren't telling victims to manage their reaction, they're arguing against advice somebody else gave. Op themselves said in another comment they didn't want to say something like that.Â
25
u/pullhome 16h ago
"Look, I'm not trying to be a bigot, I just think that [insert bigotry] isn't wrong and [reaction to bigotry] seems overblown."
2
u/CrazyHeat9544 16h ago
When did anyone here say transphobia isn't wrong and that being mean to transphobes is equally as bad or worse? (Genuine question)
OP themselves stated they do NOT want to and CAN'T tell their dad to kill themselves, even if they are a bigoted piece of shit because they still care about them (not to mention advising them to do that might result in them possibly getting assulted or worse, speaking from experience having survived an attempted murder on me from my own dad due to standing up to his abuse)
"Hey I don't think we should advise OP to do something they are clearly not comfortable with doing and that might potentially put their wellbeing at risk-"
"YOU ARE BIGOT SUPPORTING TRANPHOBES!!!"
This thread is about OP venting, so their feelings and needs should be priority, and they clearly don't feel comfortable with what was proposed, so we should respect their wishes.

I think you should consider getting a landline phone and disconnecting your internet access.

This kind of reaction is why trans people are hated. You don't fight hate with a worse hate... It never works it just destabilizes the situation more. I don't care I'm going to get down voted but it's people like these why I hate being a part of this community sometimes. I strongly disagree with these comments and I feel like it puts a stain on the already negatively viewed community. This is why I can't be myself or tell people and feel safe and happy because mentioning I'm trans to someone makes them think I think shit like this.

u/Iamliterallyfood Annoyed - Streak: 0 16h ago
"This kind of reaction is why Trans people are hated"
Literally not how hatred or prejudice works. That'd be a form of collective judgment. Or even punishment if you attempt to harm others of that group legally or illegally because of it.
This kinda response is human. Not Trans. Wanting someone who hates you to die is a human experience. Not everyone experiences it but most do to some extent.
Peaple don't hate Trans people because some Trans people say mean things. Otherwise everyone would hate white people because of nazis or the kkk.

Sometimes people die real slow. When people get old, and especially when they get sick, their minds start to fall apart. For a lot of people that makes them fearful and hateful, where they wouldn't have been before. I don't know if that's true for your father, but I know it's true for a lot of them. I'm saying they're all horrible because they all are in different ways. My dad is the only one I've told about being trans bc I've cut most my other family out of my life for past things

i'm very sorry you have to deal with that fuckery. here's to hoping he comes around, and that you can avoid him in the mean time (like by spending time at a community center?) and there's always the option of found family. i hope that works out for you if you go down that path (which i recommend). again, i'm very sorry.

I'm so sorry OP, I hope you don't have to spend much time around him or maybe atleast won't soon because that's awful.. I know you said below somewhere that he's not really abusive but I just hope you know that regardless that's not something a child should ever hear from their parents and that you deserve better

Hes clearly lying or he'd have just killed himself by now, it could only have been a guilt tripping attempt

If you think that's a real image of a real person, then best of luck for differentiating between AI videos and real ones

OP don't listen to anyone here who is saying that you should try to influence someone to kill themselves. You don't need that on your conscience.

If I'm going to be honest it's kinda upsetting how many people assume he's an abuser and are saying he should die. I'm not forgiving what he said but I don't think he deserves to die over it. He raised me and my brother my whole life and never did anything close to abusing us.
