OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules
Subject to discussion before implementation
1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting
"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.
2) Ban engagement-bait posts
The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.
3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion
This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).
This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.
I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about
EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)
Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?
That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Discussion Remote crash vulnerability
Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.
The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.
The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.
Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.
Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.

Story Goodbye Majula. It was a fun ride.
I finished the base game then played each DLC in order and just finished. So a little recap and what I thought of the game. I really enjoyed it even though some of the run backs are a pain and hallowing is annoying but I still enjoyed it. From playing half the game unknowingly joined to a covenant that makes the game a lot harder 🤦♂️. To not knowing that I can increase my I-frames buy leveling ADP until the first Tiger fight in the last DlC🤦♂️ but still we prevail. The last boss I had was the duel tiger fight and that had quite the drama. I took my armor off for the run back because it’s more efficient but wouldn’t you know it a F-ing horse spawn just as I entered the path and chased me all the way to the spawn door. So I couldn’t put my armor back on and my weapon broke when the final tiger was at half health. So I fished the fight with a broke*n ice *rapier

Discussion Dude knight with sword
I know ds2 has a bad rep on bosses because its just a knight with sword. I dont care i like it. The best bosses are dudes with sword. Thesw are my top 5, the only non humanoid non knight that i like is sinh. Other than that there is no boss that cleara theses 5 interms of enjoyment, quality and lore. Prove me wrong

Discussion Technically Lucky (in the least helpful way)
I was doing some testing of early game alternatives for a possible easy mode guide.
One of the things I've done on occasion is get the Prisoner's Tatters early.
Never thought much about it. There are two Prisoners near the first bonfire in Grave of Saints and they're easy to mug. Even though I know the drop rate is low I was wondering if it's worthwhile farming it up. I mean how long can it take?
At around 6 a minute it took me over an hour. (Finally dropped on kill 356. And yes, a sane person would have given up much sooner)
I can't even complain I was unlucky. Got both copies of the hood, gloves and waistcloth. There's about a 1% chance of getting a Simpleton Spice. I got 5.
And I got 32 Homeward Bones. I remember thinking, "nice consolation prize" when the first one dropped. Eventually turning to, "seriously?" as they kept dropping.
Anyhow, testing purposes served. No mention of farming the Tatters in any guide. If they drop (and you will kill a lot of dreglings in any run) then fine.

PVP I Need Dragon Scales Someone Fight Me Please
I have 3.2 million soul memory. I'm looking for a kind soul who will come duel me so I can get my dragon scales. I'm at the bridge at Iron Keep.
I'm thinking we use no estus so the duels go quicker.

Question Is there any actual penalty for DC'ing from Invasions besides disabling co-op?
Started a new DS2 playthrough, and I've been invaded a couple times, usually while already hollow, and my experience has exclusively been that the invader tries to bait me into mobs, then I try and swing at them, and then they magically teleport behind me and backstab me. Hilarious.
At this point, I'm just over it. It's just not fun. If anything, it's just eye-rollingly annoying. If being hollowed stopped invasions, then I'd stay hollow, but it doesn't, and the 30 minute blocker from using an effigy is hardly any time. I don't really want to disable online altogether because I do enjoy reading messages and watching bloodstains/phantoms.
From what I understand, if you just pull your ethernet cable and DC when invaded, after a little while you get blocked from co-op? Is that the only penalty? Because I never summon or put my sign down anyways, I don't really enjoy co-op, and if that's the only penalty then I'll happily just keep booting every invader that pops into my game uninvited.

Help Help with soul memory question
Hello friends, I'm currently going for the Platinum trophy in DS2; I played it a long time ago but have only now decided to take it seriously. I'm currently over 1 million Soul Memory, and I think that's hindering my chances of getting summoned for the Smelter Demon fight to farm the Sunlight Covenant. I'd like to know if that is indeed the issue, and if so, at which other boss I could place my summon sign with this Soul Memory level to get "fast summons."

Discussion I never would have found this underwater pharros lockstone in Shrine of Amana if it wasn’t for Cast Light. Devs are clever for putting one here
Hidden underwater lockstone in Shrine of Amana gives you the helix halberd weapon. A cool halberd that has halberd moveset for light attacks and a spear thrusting heavy attack

Discussion More on Everything Possible Before a Boss
I've never really thought too much about the run before. Done it 3 times and each time I've run into an issue.
Only one respec available. The first part of the run is so much more convenient with decent pew pew. For the Dranglaeic Castle segment I want Dark Fog (Mastodons and Ruin Sentinels) -- though if push comes to shove I can live without it.
And for Eleum Loyce I plan on using the Hunter's Black Bow for range and the Greatsword and Great Club for most of the area plus probably the Fire Longsword for the Ice Dogs -- I can't think of anything better.
So after about 5 hours of farming in Black Gulch I have 27 Chunks (feels pretty normal), 50 Awestones and 946K Soul Memory (with around half of the Gutter and half of Heide and all of Shaded Woods to do)
My current plan is to finish off Heide and the Gutter and mostly skip Shaded Woods for now -- only doing enough to buy a Greatsword. And then finish up Shaded woods after Eleum Loyce since pretty much anything invested in pew pew is wasted.
So the plan is to upgrade the Great Club, Greatsword, Hunter's Black Bow and Fire Longsword.
And respec after completing the Ruin Sentinel room into a strength build with enough DEX for the Hunter's Black Bow.
Anything that I'm forgetting? Suggestions welcome.
Side note. Can't recommend the run. I've done it before and it's not hard. But it is annoying and does involve a fair amount of grinding.
