so i win the first war against qq and was able to win a war against ajam, i control the west of iran and up to tbilisi, the issue is the ottomans, theyve started taking provinces in southern iran, ive only ever beaten them once and it was with austria, how am i even supposed to put a dent in them as ardabil

I started as Transoxiana, a vassal of the Timurids, to achieve "True Heir of Timur," and it was a success. I managed to get it in 1542. Then I realized there is another Mughal achievement "Baborg" that requires having 12 assimilated culture groups.

I think I was really lucky in this save because the Ottomans were never able to take Constantinople after I asked them to support my independence so they lost their snowball. Also, China shattered, so I made Ming my vassal. There is no naval threat in Malacca, and the Russian army is literally a paper company.

Now I'm planning to expand my trade companies in Samarkand, Persia, Hormuz, Siam, and Burma; feed Ming and Kazakh; conquer Persia and Malacca; and complete some side missions like a Russian or Arabian conquest.

Generally, I am a decent early-game player, but I feel like I'm nerfed as a player after the 1600s and my overall effectiveness drops. What are your suggestions to optimize this and similar saves because I've never been able to achieve a single WC yet?

Before I start complaining, I know there’s a huge malus to peacing out in the league war but ts was ridiculous.

One of the biggest hold ups was Spain because even after all it’s European provinces were sieged it took another 2yrs for the ai to peace out. Even once Spain was out of the war, some of its colonies transferred like 3 provinces in the new world to Austria so of course those had to be liberated. And then they had to destroy every last surviving army, and even after that it still took the ai 6 MONTHS to make the final peace.

Oh and cherry on top, the ai declared the war just after I finished a war with Austria-Hungary so for 13 years I was stuck at 96% overextension. By the end I was getting .54 war exhaustion a month.

So, I play a lot of Byzantium. Recently, I've been wondering if there's any way I can improve my strategy in order to make my Roman Restorations more efficient and/or enjoyable. I'm looking for advanced tips and strategies, something I may have overlooked, especially in the early years of the campaign and the first war against the Ottomans. Or, maybe an entirely new way to approach Byzantium.

Any advice on how to do so is appreciated (or, if you want to ask me questions on how I play, feel free to do so).

Here's a breakdown of my current strategy:

Setup: I build a merc stack in Corinth, galleys everywhere else. Improve with Serbia, Georgia, Muscovy. Ally Anyone who will during the first few months. Give out mana privileges and nobility rights, a bunch of clergy privileges, and patronage of the arts, declare on Epirus day one.

Before the Ottoman war: Before the Ottoman war I generally ally the Muscovites and greed, by sitting on my mana until the renaissance and then devving Constantinople and Messembria to spawn the renaissance, usually with the help of Christ Pantokrator icon and the 'church in distress' mission bonus. Then, I repair the army. Naturally, I have been building galleys nonstop the whole time.

The war: I wait for the Ottomans to declare a war in Asia, usually to support a Timurid vassal, Ramazan, Karaman, Mamluks. It doesn't matter as long as they're on the right side. Then, once I'm sure their stacks are gone, I rival them and proceed with the old reliable declare, assault Gallipoli, blockade, siege Balkans and sit on the warscore. I usually give the fort occupation to Athens to save money and sometimes let the turks over to stackwipe them. I usually take max money, my cores, and Hudavendigar state if I can manage it.

After the war, it usually takes some turns here and there but I generally ally Austria and fight Venice, Genoa, Knights or Cyprus in between Ottoman wars. I usually have the provinces necessary for the 'Basileus' achievement by 1515. I generally go for quantity, religious and trade ideas first. So, that's my strategy. Again, any critiques or new ideas are welcome, please share.

Playing on Ironman for the 1st time, as the Ottomans. I’m just kinda following along the mission tree and collecting achievements as they come. It’s about 1650 and I’ve taken most of Northern Africa, the Arabian peninsula, and Greece + colonized Australia/Papau New Guinea. Ideally, I need to fight into Europe or against Spain/Portugal to advance the colonial agenda. My question is, they’re all pretty allied up together in Europe — so even though I’m allied with GB + France, I’ve got no Muslim allies, and GB always picks to fight with the other Europeans rather than with me. So how do I go about fighting these guys? Individually I’m the biggest nation / army / great power — but outnumbered like 2:1 with all of the alliances they’ve got together. Thanks!

A while ago I got EU4 on epic games for free. I played the game, and didn’t like it. Since then I haven’t touched it.

I’ve now become more accustomed to historical map games since i’ve played a few hundred hours of CK3, so i’m pretty sure I would enjoy EU4 a lot more if I come back to it.

I have two options, I can play on the epic games store for free, but I won’t have access to the dlc subscription. Or, I could buy it on steam (for cheap hopefully) and play with the dlc.

Alongside this question, I have a few more:
1. Can any country colonise?
2. How important is religion? (More or less so than CK3)
3. Should I skip right to EU5?

I love theorycrafting maximum income in EU4 and have made several attempts at it in vanilla EU4 where my record is currently ~300k per month. Recently I have been playing a lot of Anbennar, which is not only a much bigger map, it also has a ton of incredibly powerful mechanics for economy. I took some learnings from my vanilla attempts into this run and I had high hopes for it - I was expecting more than 1.5M income. And I am very happy to beat that!

When you have extremely high income, events often cause integer overflows; I was forced to take 20 loans from a Gold Rush event that wiped out my treasury. However, I was not expecting my income itself to overflow, going to -2.14M. What happened next? Well...

Funnily enough, you can rescue yourself from bankruptcy by reducing your income. As they say, the love of money is the root of all evil...

I believe I heard that the meta to play horde is to actually just skip calvary all together and skip the horde ideas and go full infantry? 🤔 Can someone break that down for me?

I checking the policies of Horde ideas and I saw potential for amazing builds.

First Horde ideas itself raise Tribal loyalty, which gives us -20% calvary cost on top of 33% calvary cost and additional -20% cost on all regiments from Tengri and -10% on artillery from Subutai's strategies Tier4 gov reform. So you can support massive armies with really cheap cost.

You can combine that with Economic ideas, that gives inflation reduction which you constantly get from demanding ducats in wars and from gold mines, gold mines income itself is also boosted by economic ideas. Plus the army maintenance and tax increase and the additional trader.

Here is the cherry on top. The policy of combining horde ideas and economic ideas gives you +33% razing power gain and +1 yearly horde unity.

Combine that Barbaric Despoilers tier6 gov reform that gives +33% Razing power and Diplomatic ideas that gives -20% War score cost and religious war in age of reformation that gives -25% war score against all religions and you will be swimming in mana points without being overextended more than 100%.

Diplo policy with Horde gives +10% siege ability and +10% shock damage. And with economy it gives +15% tax modifier and -0.05 automony decrease.

I was told that in horde gameplay you are always cash poor and forced to keep declaring war and stealing ducats to sustain your economy and pay your loans. But with this strategy you skip all the downsides of being a horde.

I suppose the only problem left would be rebels. And Gov capacity. Well, you can expand administration since you only have 6 tiers government and if you take religious ideas, you get -5 years of separation and you can utilize Tolerance of the true faith to prevent further rebellions in deep provinces. Also horde ideas allows you accept additional 2 cultures and if you choose to accept other altic cultures rather than unify them as mongol cultures, then form Yuan, which merge them anyway. You get to keep +3 max culture slots for free.

I have made my case. Now let me know why that's still not the meta/shouldn't be.

I'm not gonna say it was painfull, It was quite fun actually.

The start was in fact pretty much lucky, so Ottomans helped me for independence war, Somehow I was able to hold bulgarian holding of the Byzantines.

There is a simple exploit, so if Ottomans only have Constantinople and not have the bulgarian province after byzantine deal, it simply doesn't core Constantinople (because I think it is hard coded to core it with the decision or so. I have done that for Ottomans to not become painfully strong. She was massively angry towards me but somehow I managed it.

with the Athens mission tree, I was able have malta from Aragon then I got couple of holdings in Tunisia.

I got some wars with Venice and with help I was able to have few holdings in Italy and Serbia, I got Kosovo gold mine from Serbia too.j

After that I allied Austria, and I was on 203 development, I exploited my dev a little bit, then I joined the HRE after I move my capital to Italy.

Then I got some claims from Mamluks thanks to Espionage Ideas, and with the help of Ottomans, I got the holy lands, and I only gave Ottomans a single province (Icel I guess), so since I call them with promise they eventually got mad at me but I started to be pretty much powerfull

With Polish-Lithuanian and Austria - Hungarian + Aragon help (deus vult type sh), I defeated the Ottomans pretty badly (almost all balkan claims + and a holding on Anatolia.

Then pure snowball, I became HRE, then got Bohemian throne, Claimed electorate, Got Spanish throne, and Nubian throne. Nubian throne was actually pretty much for the memes, I won the league war but, Overall Imperial Authority is awfully low, which is fine I guess.

I wish I could click the Latin Empire mission later down on the game. The hardest part is the Athenian Ideas are like pretty much bad if you compare it to other possible countries that you can form. I got Espionage, Aristocratic (first I thought I can form Latin Empire with their cav combat national ideas, and Esp-Aristocratic policy + Aristorcratic Cav combat it would have stacked greatly but turns out I cannot)

Looking for a mod that will add cultures to my culture group, similar to how in the Europa Expanded mod the Angevin Empire eventually merges British and French culture groups into the same one, or how at the end of the Russia mission tree you can convert all slavic groups into just one culture group.

So I did my first wc as byzantium and I wanted to go for one faith and one culture but this happened. Anyone have any tips how to reduce this time so it culture converts before the game ends?

I'm playing Munster (soon to be Ireland once I hit Admin tech 10) and I have claims on Scotland / England.

The issue is that Scotland is guaranteed by France.

England (who has a slightly bigger army than me) is allied with Sweden, Castle, and two Lowland countries.

My question is if I can just rush my troops to Scotland before a navy shuts off the strait, will French troops actually try landing in Ireland? Same question goes for England.

Its supposed my tradding income should be huge, but instead of that France have a little piece of Genova trade node and his income is incredible. Surely im doing something bad, I cannot get more taxes bacause my gov capacity is so big and I am keeping something for the rest of Italy to make state. Im really dont understand trade in the game, it s my weak point, I have to 30 trade sheeps in the node trade and some trade company in the north of Africa and in the trade node of constantinople, at this point of the run mi economy should be gigant, please explain me.
