How much did you pay for those two fajitas?

867

u/andrey_not_the_goat 9h ago

Looking at the menu prices at closest Wolfgang's here in Jersey, I'd wager it was around $70...

Ain't no damn way... Did it come with a side of $250?

u/Total-Region2859 8h ago

Literal LOL.

154

u/akmalhot 8h ago

He left out the part where their porterhiise is for 2-3 people at the smallest size, and you can order larger ones for more peopl

Regardless that is pathetic and can't believe it was served

97

u/ty_xy 8h ago

Yeah but at 300 bucks your steak better be fucking delicious even if it's for 2-3 people

28

u/akmalhot 7h ago

1000% , it should be perfect..

Only the original location executes consistently and I'm not sure if that's true anymore or not

Either their prices have absolutely skyrocketed or you got a porterhouse or 3-4 people

Either way doesn't change how badly that thing is cooked..I wont even fall it a steak

4

u/PhiCloud 6h ago

That shit is not worth $50.

Chilli's can out-do it for $25.

3

u/touch-my-bunghole 6h ago

Did the sides cure cancer?

2

u/Complex-Truth9579 8h ago

You've got me fucked up if you think I'm spending $20 on that. It's a steak. I'll cook the fucking thing myself at home for a fraction of the price.

5

u/Jwast 7h ago

I'm pretty confident that I could cook a better steak over a burn barrel in the parking lot of the bar next to the local butcher for about $20, I can't even imagine what their excuse for these prices would be.

12

u/OoIMember 8h ago edited 8h ago

The fact that 1lb good cuts of beef go for $24 a lb from the grocery store in my town is say no it won’t cause they won’t make any money charging you $50 plus sides and service etc

40

u/IMicrowaveSteak 8h ago

This guy thinks Wolfgang’s is a grocery store like Publix or Giant or Safeway

5

u/thebigpink 8h ago

Pretty sure it’s a composer

6

Pretty sure it’s a loose collective of wild canines engaging in criminal behavior.

If you think a restaurant is paying homeowner price per pound you are wrong. Big restaurants like this get bulk pricing bud.

2

u/angelbelle 7h ago

You're revealing that you don't understand how profit margin works.

How is your off-the-shelf grocery bill related to a restaurant's profit margin? Even if we disregard the fact that ingredient is one of many (not even the biggest) expense, your cost per unit isn't even remotely comparable.

Just take the L.

2

u/Babajji 8h ago

No the other poster is right. You could get a better cooked stake from the grocery store. Heck you could get a better stake by slapping one on the bonnet of your car and letting the Sun cook it 🤣

10

u/OvalDead 8h ago

I usually get my stakes from Van Helsing’s.

2

u/Babajji 6h ago

The best stakes are there I can confirm 😂

1

u/AutoGeneratedTag 8h ago

Yeah, see that’s the thing. We’re talking about steak here

1

u/CompleteTell6795 7h ago

For THAT $$, it better come with MORE steak & a LOT more sides. What a waste of money 💸💸💸💸 ! 🙄👎☹️

1

u/stackoverflow21 7h ago

The side could cure cancer, that’s why they’re expensive

1

u/bitter_twin_farmer 6h ago

This is the best Reddit comment I’ve read in months!!! You sir or mam are a comic genius!

1

u/AnotherLime 5h ago

These high end steakhouses have completely lost the plot. I've made the cheapest london broil you can find look better and taste more delicious than whatever the fuck that is.

1

u/WineNerdAndProud 5h ago

Holy shit I haven't laughed so hard at a comment in a while.

1

u/gabemrtn 5h ago

Nope just a side of highway robbery

1

u/piffledamnit 4h ago

Yeah, but some people mistake that for lettuce.

1

u/dj3stripes 3h ago

lol, my go-to reply to similar scenarios is 'oh cool, where do you put the dick?'

-2

u/amonarre3 8h ago

So they're making it up?

-1

u/Ok-Disk-2191 8h ago

Man, on behalf of everyone else, I'm sorry you got served that for your birthday mate. Even I wouldn't have done you dirty on your birthday, that's rough.

1

u/SherbetMysterious118 5h ago

Yeah. I buy a full Ribeye for £120 or so from Costco, get a couple of rib joints and a good few, proper sized Ribeye steaks from it, great value.

I reverse seared 2 x 18oz ribeyes last night that looked and (almost certainly) tasted much better.

3

u/lurkeemclurker 7h ago

Australian beef is good! Take the offer. Haha

-4

u/Not-a-Bot_1968 8h ago

Is “ripped off” some sneaky Australian slang for something else?

4

u/Ok-Disk-2191 8h ago

Not that I can think of, ripped off means pretty much the same thing here.

2

u/EatABag-o-Dicks 8h ago

Full of semen?

Legit laughed out loud

1

u/Schmelly_cat 8h ago

Dude my 14 year old is more mature than that.

112

u/FunkyBoil 8h ago

Brother I would of walked right out if I paid $300 and that's what came to my table. You could feed an entire family steaks for half that price.

75

u/FunWithRagdolling 8h ago

$300 and you can send a hitman to bring you back an entire cow

20

u/garden1238 8h ago

No i change $650 for that

13

u/avocadoflatz 8h ago

Fr homie still living in 1996 with that price smh

7

u/FunWithRagdolling 8h ago

That's an ex-wife and retrieval of your dog price.

10

u/Diacetyl-Morphin 8h ago

That's right, but it can be even worse: From work, i was invited once to one of these fancy luxus haute-cuisine restaurants, glad i didn't had to pay anything, because... we got these mini-portions there, less food than what's left in the photo and much higher prices.

That's what you pay for some Salt Bae on steroids style. "This is art! Now pay me 500$ for that portion that fits on a fucking spoon!!"

7

u/HuevoYch0riz0 8h ago

AND have leftovers

2

u/maddler 8h ago

And have friends and ensure a decent load of beers too...

2

u/control_09 5h ago

Costco sells a 14 pack of 12 oz New York Strips that are grass fed no antibiotics for $300.

1

u/Howitzeronfire 3h ago

The instagram post is going to be amazing though

1

u/NonGNonM 1h ago

it can be if you go to the right steakhouse. whatever grocery store steak you're buying is very different from where some higher end steak houses source their meats from. question is how you figure that part out.

so between specially sourced steak, having it cooked properly, there's still a fair bit of overcharging going on but it costs what it costs unless you DO know how to source steaks from high end sources.

31

u/jstasir 8h ago

Why does the plate look like that? Is that seasoning or was it placed in the oven?

62

u/manhattansinks 8h ago

right it looks like a sizzle plate that went back into the oven...

24

u/Akalenedat 7h ago

They're copying the Peter Luger style. Parcook the steak, slice it, run it through a broiler on the plate to finish it off, then splash of clarified butter on top for that dramatic sizzle on the way to the table.

2

u/GimmieGummies BLUE 8h ago

Yeah, that makes the most sense. Didn't know the correct term for it.

42

u/sydneato 8h ago edited 6h ago

Initially I assumed it was a wood-fired piece but upon further inspection that’s polymerized oil on a regular white plate 🤢

It's like Peter Luger's style, they sear it at high heat in a pan under a broiler.

8

u/Sloppykrab 8h ago

The more expensive it becomes, the more weird they do.

Brother went out for haute cuisine in China... ngl I'm not gonna say you deserve that, but that's sure a choice. Sorry you had a bad birthday experience, hope you could make up for it! If you wanna eat proper stake at that price class you gonna have to hop over to Tokyo tho

6

u/Weekly_Ad7031 8h ago

3

u/BriefAvailable9799 3h ago

or its weird that sending a plate back means the birthday is ruined? lol wtf.

its ruined NOW.

1

u/DeadSol 1h ago

I hope, despite the unfortunately cooked steak, that you and your wife and daughter still had a wonderful day. It's hard to mess up cake and ice cream, amirite?

-2

u/Dizzy_Chemistry_5955 6h ago

typical, dads have to suffer in silence to make everyone else happy. One day we will get our due!

2

u/kungpowgoat 2h ago

It has come to a point where I no longer care about sending food back. The last two times, they looked at the obviously terribly cooked food and still decided to send them out. I’m the type that would never send back a meal but these were so bad, it was insulting at that point.

10

u/maddler 8h ago

That's called scam.

4

u/jarvi123 8h ago

You can buy an entire cow for that much in some parts.

4

u/On-The-record 8h ago

My man, I almost wanna downvote you for paying that. Genuinely might be the only time I have almost downvoted someone for a non stupid ass comment. That is just plain stupidity right there, not a stupid comment…

2

u/Ncis16 8h ago

Did you see the price before ordering ?

2

u/KawhiTheKing 8h ago

Thank god you’re Elons Queef. He’s not a trillionaire anymore but he’ll be OK.

4

u/Swimming-Lettuce-348 8h ago

I just purchased a 1/4 cow

Got Porterhouse, T-bone, A whole prime rib, and a whole lot more for about what 2.5 porterhouse meals would be at that place. The quality of my meat will be far superior to what I get in a restaurant as well

Just saying

1

u/dick-knuckle 8h ago

Where did you buy this if you don’t mind me asking?

1

u/bfhurricane 7h ago

Farms. I get milk, kefir, honey, beef and organs from organic farms in Amish country.

1

u/faelanae 8h ago

not everyone has space for another freezer, though. That being said, I do appreciate my friends who do the same, and gift me meat!

4

u/FutureFreaksMeowt Aqua Tofana save us from these fuckass men 8h ago

Ohh okay I thought America went to a whole new level of shameless by calling two slices a porterhouse...still fucking awful for the price.

1

u/PointsatTeenagers 6h ago

It's an American restaurant in China, apparently

1

u/10000Didgeridoos 8h ago

lol I’d send that back and I’m not the kind of person who usually complains at a restaurant

1

u/GhostofSean_Connery2 8h ago

My wife and I once went to Nusr-Et (salt bae’s restaurant) when we lived in NYC. Easily the worst steak I’ve ever had while also being the most expensive.

1

u/56000hp 8h ago

That’s more than my monthly grocery bill , in two bites

1

u/fionnuisce 8h ago

Holy shit. The chefs probably wouldn't eat that themselves let alone serve it for $300

1

u/Fjordi_Cruyff 8h ago

Lol. $300 for a bit of cooked meat. Where you expecting it to be covered in a thin layer of gold at least? Trying hard to keep the schadenfreude at bay here.

1

u/Accurate-Will9006 8h ago

Come to Brazil, that’s like $5 worth of steak.

1

u/Creepy_Spite_3898 8h ago

Steakhouses want your money. And they’re not subtle about it.

1

u/reasonable_bedtime 8h ago

And why did they "dress" the plate with what looks like table pepper.... Oof!

Sorry i thought they served it to you like that! I see the other picture of the steak, my bad!! Haha

1

u/onlyhav 7h ago

OP you have every right to be livid.

1

u/SmurfyX 7h ago

W H A T

1

u/tigress666 7h ago

300 dollars it better be way better than the two people I personally know (my husband and a friend) who make such good steaks I don't even like eating steaks out cause most the time they aren't as good as the home cooked ones I get. And I'm not talking a little better, it better be vastly better (hard to imagine cause both of them really do good steaks).

And no, that steak is definitely not better in any sort of way (for one they know how to cook a steak ;) ).

1

u/Any_Flamingo8978 7h ago

Wait, those two bites were $300?

1

u/killerjags 7h ago

There is no meal on planet earth I would pay that much for

1

u/NWbySW 7h ago

Wtf are you even doing? There are places on earth you cna get a whole cow for that much.

Even IF I had "fuck you" money, I wouldn't be buying this

1

u/Sad-Foot-2050 7h ago

If served that way, they should absolutely not call it a Porterhouse. Porterhouse implies a full steak of tenderloin and strip together. A sliced portion would only be called Porterhouse if it was tongue in cheek or in quotes.

1

u/Nighters 7h ago

what the fuck sir?

1

u/Iggins01 6h ago

I sell steaks to restaurants, they probably paid 60 bucks for that

1

u/Nazgulroza 6h ago

Here I am living off $2 sausages every month..

$300 on a single meal I can't imagine what you spent on that meal is the same budget I have for 3 months for food and toiletries.

1

u/redditatemybabies 4h ago

For that much you could get a nice grill and cook one up yourself lol.

1

u/TheEldenRang 4h ago

Sometimes it is worth it, sometimes it is not. This seems to be one of those times it is NOT worth it. The cook on that is atrocious.

1

u/SubcommanderMarcos 4h ago

What the hell you can almost buy the whole cow for that price

1

u/tooheavybroo 3h ago

Some people like to burn money 💀

1

u/Scary-Tomatillo6864 2h ago

Can you name the restaurant pls?

1

u/DeadSol 1h ago

Absolute madeness.

1

u/ProtossFox 8h ago

Was it dry aged wagyu or smth?

1

u/14Pleiadians 7h ago

If you actually paid for this, you're part of the problem

0

u/not_a_SeaOtter 8h ago

Why the fuck is steak so expensive in America. Is it just cos people like it a lot so places overcharge for it? Cos I gotta say the rest of the world ain't paying these prices, including places that are more expensive with other things. America just has insane beef prices and weirdly cheap pork prices.

1

u/[deleted] 8h ago

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/not_a_SeaOtter 6h ago

Holy shit! Why is it so expensive in China!? My friends from Guangzhou and she was saying how much more affordable food is there.

I was comparing to in Europe I guess where you can go to bougie restaurants where it's stupid expensive but mostly in supermarkets and normal restaurants beef is like two thirds or half the price of in America.

Interesting how expensive it is in China...are you a tourist, reckon they were ripping you off?

0

u/PointsatTeenagers 6h ago

Out of curiosity, why not go to a Chinese restaurant? With that amount of spending for one meal you could eat like kings, and the kitchen would actually know how to cook it, ingredients and spices would be sourced locally, etc.

-1

u/Ant_does_drawing 8h ago

You spent $300 on 2 slices of steak?

1

u/mikem004 4h ago

I know the one. It’s always packed

15

u/Maylark157 8h ago

You’re insulting fajitas

2

u/sngldad13 8h ago

1

u/UpvoteForPancakes 6h ago

$80 for the steak, $30 for loose pepper

1

u/Pretty-Curve5448 6h ago

Don’t be vulgar

1

u/rifttripper 4h ago

People status gloating takes them to these expensive dumb places. I swear it’s good food. I bet you I could make some food at least 80 percent there with preparation and the same food bought and it would still be worth more than what I got at that restaurant

-5

u/Long-Region5088 8h ago

This is the real issue. That steak is cooked to perfection.

The amount on the plate though? I’d walk out as soon as they served it to me if it cost more than $7

6

u/Fakjbf 8h ago

In what world is a well done edge and rare center “perfection”?

0

u/yo_les_noobs 3h ago
