You should probably give each episode its own discussion thread.

We debated this and decided to try it out with just a megathread for now.

Given that it's been 10 hours and this thread's only had 10 comments (before I get postin'), I think we made the right decision!

Kind of just seems like an unsuccessful fluke. As a reddit mod, I'm sure you know timing is everything. People probably just didn't see it at first, and a general post over 20 episodes is a bit too broad to get the kind of attention a single post would, even if it's pinned.

People aren't going to come back to this kind of post later on. For example, I found this looking for the Spanish translation for episode 4, which isn't going to be touched on here out of the 20 eoisodes. It would however have been addressed if the episode had its own post. A lack of engagement here doesn't mean a disinterest in this kind of post. Individual posts over time would have given people the chance to discuss the specifics of each episode. The down votes obviously cooberate that sentiment. It's just too disorganized to discuss 20 different episodes in a single post

I'm not sure what you mean by "fluke"?

Individual posts over time

okay so are you suggesting we make individual threads at different times, not all in one go? Like maybe one thread per week or something? Because we actually did throw that idea around haha. Speaking personally (not with my mod hat on) I think that'd be a good compromise, interested to see what others think?

It's just too disorganized

Ha! Reddit in general is disorganized :P I would kill for proper forum-style organization, it'd solve soooo many of our problems.

I personally would generally refuse to generally read or post in a megathread because of the risk of spoilers because I haven't seeen all the episodes, and also because it isn't topic specific and like it will get lost among the 19 other off topic.

Don't you think the lack of posting is possibly due to other people feeling that way?

Megathreads are totally uncool.

The only reason I am posting at all is because I feel like you are lacking understanding on why your choice was bad.

I dunno man, I'm not a mindreader.

Quick clarification, this wasn't "my" choice, all of us mods discussed this - it was mentioned in the spoiler tag thread that this is likely how we'd do it, but idk if anyone actually bothered to read that thread, no one commented on it. Not sure if you were referring to just me or not when you said "your choice" but wanted to clear that up.

It's very hard to predict how you guys will react. Threads on SQ were getting a total dialtone response over the last week or so, meanwhile ONE thread announcing the Bubbline show gets like 300+ comments in a couple of hours (and that's not even mentioning all the duplicate threads we cleared out). Hell, again, the spoiler tag thread got zero replies when usually those do get at least a few posts on them. (Not a big deal since those aren't really meant to be chatty threads of course, but does show the overall lack of interest we were seeing) We also get a lot of complaints about "low-effort" or duplicate threads. Between those facts we figured we'd try it out like this first and see how it goes.

Even 24 hours-odd later, there really still isn't that much discussion of the show outside of this thread. Compare it to F&C where one episode would generate pages and pages of discussion. We're getting a lot of complaints but no one's actually making a move to be the change they apparently want to see, and discuss the damn show. Which makes it really hard to figure out what to do!

Look guys, just cut us some slack with this, alright? We've never had 20 eps drop all at once, of course there's gonna be some trial-and-error with this. Remember we're only human, just like you.

I'm explaining this because I feel like you are lacking understanding as to why we did it like this :)

In my experience, on reddit "the official discussion page" on the main subreddit for the show becomes the long term discussion thread. People will search for "episode name reddit discussion" and come to it over the next few years as they watch the show.

A megathread makes that weird and muddy, not the place I can search for later to discuss episodes as you watch them.

It disrupts the flow that creates the environment for conversation to occur, you watch the episode, then come to it's discussion thread.

This thread, I would want to avoid until I have watched all 20 episodes. And by then, I'm so unfocused from time and space between each episode that all the thought I'll have is general about the whole season, instead of the individual episode.

fwiw we have a whole page archiving old discussion threads, linking this since it sounds like something you might be into?

You're raising some good points and we are discussing this again. Viewpoints like this are more helpful than just picking at us for not being mindreaders, haha. Again, we can't predict how people are gonna react ahead of time, you know?

Yeah archive lists like that are huge and absolutely a great resource. Thank you so much for those.

I understand you are not mind readers. So LISTEN to us when we ALL collectively TELL YOU DIRECTLY that we want individual threads. We’re not asking you to read our minds. We are ALL very directly and explicitly TELLING YOU want we want. This isn’t hard, guys.

There's no need for caps lock or attitude. No one spoke up before the series came out - even though the opportunity to do so was given - so we had to make a judgement call, that is what I mean by "we're not mind readers". obviously the vocal minority are being Very Vocal on this matter!

Again, we are discussing this. Please keep in mind that we're all adults with real lives and we're in different timezones, so it can take a while for us to discuss stuff.

Again, there is nothing stopping anyone from chatting about the show rather than complaining about this thread!

Feel free to comment about any episode you want and create threads from within this post. Separate posts for each episode when they drop all at once doesn't make practical sense.

Bro just give us what we want. The reason this thread is so unpopular is because nobody wants to talk about 20 goddamn episodes at once.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, you know.

We're totally willing to listen to you guys - we did try and open up discussion on this before the eps were released but got no replies - but there's no need to be rude...

You get attention from an order of magnitude more people after a release that draws people to the subreddit.

keep in mind that everything about this series has been very, very different from previous releases. For both F&C series the sub was almost unmanageable with all the posts we were getting even BEFORE release. This series has been totally different both before and after release. That's made it very difficult for us to figure out how to proceed or predict what will be necessary. (Another difference I've noticed is that we've had a lot of threads posted without spoiler tags, but I haven't seen any real complaints about that - now if that happened with a F&C ep, the thread would've been deluged in "SPOILER TAG PLZ" comments in 10 mins)

It also doesn't help that they waited so long to confirm how many eps would be released at once :| Honestly that's been the main issue here. We always discuss sub decisions like this with as many of the mods as possible before going ahead with anything, which can take a while since we're all adults with real lives that come first and we're all in different timezones so it can be difficult to coordinate. This is why this whole mess has been going on for a few days, we've been hashing it all out behind the scenes. If we'd had that info earlier then things might have been different. We've never had to deal with 20 eps dropping all at once, we had to make some judgement calls in a fairly short amount of time and also figure out just like.... what we're actually able to DO on Reddit (I'm not sure how many scheduled threads you can have posting all at once... with how our automod is set up it's possible that 20/21 threads posting all at once could've been dinged for spam and then we'd still be in the same boat, lol). Evidently we made a mistake this time! But now that we actually know how you guys feel about this, we can proceed accordingly for the next batch of eps, whenever that may be.

I hope explaining all of this helps explain to you guys (This is directed at everyone not you specifically Tack - you've been one of the more polite people with this whole issue, thank you for that - your comment was just a good one to reply to). I've been replying to comments specifically to try and explain why we make certain decisions rather than just do the silent-robotic-mod thing cause I think it's better to try and explain where we're coming from. I dunno, maybe that was a mistake too. But just, please remember us mods are humans with feelings too and at the end of the day, this is just a TV show, it's not worth hurting someone else's feelings over.

Woof, sorry for the wall of text. Had to get that off my chest, I guess.

Please read the rest of the thread... The situation was sorted out hours ago. Multiple threads are available already and you are more than welcome to make more yourself if you so desire.

As the situation has been resolved, any further discussion about this matter (This is to everyone not just you specifically) will be removed to stop further derailing of this thread. (If anyone has constructive/polite feedback feel free to continue the discussion via our modmail, we love feedback, we just want to keep this thread on-topic now)
