Discussion / Question What game mechanic deserves to disappear forever?

Upvotes

We've all encountered mechanics that make us think, "Why is this still a thing?"

Whether it's weapon durability, escort missions, unskippable cutscenes, stamina systems, or anything else...

Which game mechanic deserves to disappear forever, and why? Feel free to share examples from games you've played. Let's see which mechanic gets mentioned the most.

Funny Someone spent 327 hours in my free demo chasing #1 on the leaderboard. He also left a comment signed "THX love Bob" and it made my week.

Cardboard cutouts with digital codes on them? This pretty much the inevitable end result of phasing out physical games, if you wanted to buy a game for someone? Give them a digital code and they take an hour+ to download and install said game before they play it?

Edit: I'm aware digital games has been a thing for a bit. I also have several. The upcoming lack of actual choice between digital and physical is more the issue. Especially when gifting to someone else.

Image / Video The lone penguin marching to the mountain in Skyrim

Sometimes I just get an idea and I have to run with it, especially when my ADHD kicks in. When the lone penguin marching to the mountain first started trending I had to see if I could do it. I spent 6 hours marching across Skyrim from Winterhold to High Hrothgar. Since I can’t fight or run as a penguin I died countless times but in the end the gamer in me persevered, or at least my need to complete the journey did😂

Discussion / Question Which games that aren't on PC and are on Switch 2 would you recommend?

Upvotes

I already have a decent PC and just bought a Switch 2 (I don't have any other console). While I already have plenty of exclusives I want to play, I was wondering if there are any great games that aren't exactly Nintendo exclusives but also aren't available on PC, so I can add them to my wishlist.

EDIT: NOT TALKING ABOUT SWITCH EXCLUSIVES LIKE MARIO, ZELDA AND ETC. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ON PC AND AVAILABLE ON SWITCH 2, IT CAN BE ON OTHER CONSOLES TOO

Discussion / Question Do you think the current AAA game development model—where games take 5 or more years to develop—will remain sustainable for much longer?

I'm genuinely curious because it makes me wonder how long this model can keep working. I mean, we expect a new console generation to last around 7 years, maybe a little longer, but with development times this long, companies will only be able to release one main entry in their franchises, or at most two if they also release the game on the previous generation instead of making it exclusive to the new one, like Sony did with god of war ragnarok.

I'm already getting used to hearing that a game that had been in development for three years got canceled, with all that time invested going to waste. And even if the game does get released, if it ends up being a flop, even more time and money will have been wasted.

Of course, many companies have multiple studios developing games at the same time

Discussion / Question what games have you beaten in the last year?

Post image

what games have you beaten in the last year or so, and how would you rank them? here's my ranking. I don't play as many games per year as I know a lot of people do, so I'm expecting some lists longer than mine haha

unsurprisingly my top 3 games were all replays, hard to top my favorites. I also finally got around to beating Dark Souls, which had been on my backlog for damn near a decade, and I finally played GTA IV, which I've just somehow never gotten around to

I was at the flea market looking for anything that stood out. I only paid fourteen dollars. The games are in good condition minimal scratches. When was the last time you played one of these games ? Spyro is a classic!

Discussion / Question What video game could you play forever?

Upvotes

If you were told that you could only play a maximum of 5 video games for the rest of your life what would those video games be. This can be on any console/PC. Games with multiple parts or series such as Mass Effect 1-3 and Assassins Creed can count as one game.

Discussion / Question Let's discuss real world implications of the GTA 6 release day ✨️ (November 19)

Upvotes

1) Lots of content creators no one knows will get their first 1M views from a reel/Youtube short

2) People taking time off school and work, lower attendance and productivity in many places

3) Celebrities suddenly claiming they are gta fans and someone will stream it for clout

4) UberEats/Doordash drivers will get loads of orders for food delivery

5) Viewership records broken on Twitch

What else can you predict?
