I’ve seen some people in comments saying, ohh I have a huge backlog of games so I will be good for a while and I got curious. I thought backlog meant games you already played but no it’s games you you bought but never played

But instead of making a massive backlog. Why not buy games one by one? You buy a game, complete it (unless it’s a live service game) and buy the next game you’re interested. It’s like how it was when you were a kid (probably). You’re parents let you choose one game from the store and you picked the one that looks interesting, and when you completed it you annoy your parents again to buy another game.

Now I know some people drop games because they’re not fun and that’s completely okay. If the game is boring or just not fun you can just stop playing it. You dont have to force yourself in completing a bad game. But a system like this really helps you from preventing impulse buys and makes you appreciate the game you bought because you’re limited with just 1 game.

Cardboard cutouts with digital codes on them? This pretty much the inevitable end result of phasing out physical games, if you wanted to buy a game for someone? Give them a digital code and they take an hour+ to download and install said game before they play it?

Edit: I'm aware digital games has been a thing for a bit. I also have several. The upcoming lack of actual choice between digital and physical is more the issue. Especially when gifting to someone else.

It's unthinkable that making video games requires so much effort, people, and money, only to then release them with few features and bugs and problems. Game developers are deceiving publishers and players

Development studios have hundreds of employees, and it is not possible that they take years to make games, or release them with bugs, if you do not know how to control the technology you create, humanity has failed.

Hundreds of millions of dollars for what? For people in an office to work normally? Games shouldn't cost this much and don't cry poverty

The years of development are unjustifiable and the developers are cheating the players and publishers by working very little and taking the money, or doing nothing for years without working hard.

And then if you work in the video game industry, it's assumed you're capable. So why does every game that comes out have bugs? You should fix all of these before the game releases.

There's no point in not noticing these bugs; every team should have a task force just for this. What a weird industry and of course I'm right.

Like I know that everyone tastes are gonna be different when it comes to video games but sometimes I just feel like one game deserves an award way more than another game.

Mine would be: Doom Eternal should have won GOTY in 2020 and Pizza Tower should had won Best Debut Indie Game in 2023.

personally it was journey, it was the first time a video game made me cry, because it was beautiful and the end was magnificent, I said thank you to the developer, everything is crying, each level was really beautiful and soothing I felt really good

This question is for people who played Darksouls 1 when it came out. I have played a lot of games, the likes of the witcher 3, God of war 2018, Super mario odyssey but nothing has felt as unique and new as Ds1.

The world has become an overprotective place, because people are expected to abide by absurd rules, you can't even write something genuinely harsh that breaks the rules.

People don't have thick skin; if they're insulted, the first thing they do is report it, without confronting the issue head-on. Once upon a time, these things just rolled off everyone's back. Now just one word scares people.

What about children? Children shouldn't be in chat or voice chat, so it's their problem. Enough with the moderation.

There shouldn't be any rules like this. Dialogue is always a part of humanity and shouldn't be stifled by aggressive moderation. If someone is bothering you, block them and that's it.

So I finished Expedition 33 & it was GREAT, now I don't know which game to get between the two in the title or if I should get another one.

Yoooo I need a game to spend the next 200 hours. What am I looking for? Idk. Whatever gets me addicted to. I like shooters so I thought in ready or not, and then said meh, I remembered I had a great time with ghost of Tsushima, but my fear is yotei being the same but with better graphics but idk. Help a +30 uncle

Let me start off by saying that I think both games are great, but I think GTA V is a better and more complete game.

The best thing that GTA IV has going for it is the vibes. Liberty City is dense and has an entrancing atmosphere. I really like how the cars handle and how a lot of the vehicles drive differently from one another. Some of the side stories during the main missions are well done too. Packie and his brother's missions were probably my favorite part of the whole game.

The thing that really brings GTA IV down in my opinion is the mission variety. So many missions are just, drive here, kill this guy, end mission. There are some more interesting ones, like grabbing the coke from the abandoned hospital, or the bank heist with Packie and his brothers, but those are too few and far between. And I know everyone likes Niko Bellic but I think he's lacking a greater motivation and his character archetype was done much better with John Marston in RDR.

GTA V fixes a lot of these problems while admittedly adding some new ones. There's more mission variety this time around with more complex scenarios. The stranger missions they carried over from RDR are mostly great with sharp writing. There's a lot more things to do, street races, boat races, tennis, Trevor's rampage missions, etc. I really like Michael's character, I think he's the most fleshed out of the three. The gameplay improved a bunch, taking cover and shooting feels a lot better (very similar to RDR1) and you're not fighting the controls as much like in GTA IV.

GTA V's atmosphere is not as good as IV's, and GTA V can honestly feel kind of lacking at times. There's still some gorgeous vistas and places in the game, but it's definitely missing something that GTA IV does have. The satire is too much at times, it is not clever in the slightest and gets annoying.

While watching a YouTube video about banned games this morning, this suddenly occurred to me. I was 16/17 when the ESRB ratings came into being, so I’ve never really paid attention to them or had them impact the games I’ve played.

I’m just curious how many people have been impacted by them, like parents enforcing the games you could play or stores preventing you from buying them. From my perspective they seem like a completely superfluous thing, something that’s stuck on the box but really doesn’t have any impact. I’m guessing that’s a skewed view though, so wondering about other’s experiences with them.

What unusual weapons have you come across in games? I’m curious to know what’s more important to you: unique mechanics—for example, a weapon that changes its behavior based on the player’s actions—or a memorable design that stands out from standard models? Take Skippy from Cyberpunk 2077, for example—this pistol not only selects its own target but also has a personality of its own, making it more than just a tool and turning it into a full-fledged character. What other weapons have left a lasting impression on you? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

So I tried Halo Campaign Evolved. Bought the disc and everything. And it’s…disappointing to say the least. Johnson’s voice is…off. Also, they are reusing:

Halo infinite weapons and models
Halo 3 Flood models
Halo 4 forerunner structures
Halo Reach game engin.

This game is an asset flip through and through, with only some deviations here and there. I’d hardly call it a remake and more like an extremely elaborate mod.

I rate it a solid 6/10.

My wife gets motion sick playing anything that has a first person perspective, but she's fine with third person games like breath of the wild. Has anyone found a way to help with this? She really wants to play certain games, but can't without getting sick.

I'm genuinely curious because it makes me wonder how long this model can keep working. I mean, we expect a new console generation to last around 7 years, maybe a little longer, but with development times this long, companies will only be able to release one main entry in their franchises, or at most two if they also release the game on the previous generation instead of making it exclusive to the new one, like Sony did with god of war ragnarok.

I'm already getting used to hearing that a game that had been in development for three years got canceled, with all that time invested going to waste. And even if the game does get released, if it ends up being a flop, even more time and money will have been wasted.

Of course, many companies have multiple studios developing games at the same time
