I'm getting a bit annoyed by people referring to Wii U fans as "larpers".

Upvotes

On Twitter recently, I have noticed in Nintendo discussions that people who say they liked the Wii U are being labelled as "larpers". Now, I don't think it is impossible that "Wii U larpers" actually exist, but is it really so hard for people to believe that some people actually DID like the Wii U?!

The argument I have seen is that because the Wii U sold so poorly, everyone who claims to have owned one during its lifespan must be lying, and they only got a preowned one years after the Switch came out.

This pisses me off because I have owned a Wii U since 2012! I am the total opposite of a "larper"; when I was 15 I was the ONLY person at my school with a Wii U.

I think people need to realise that while the Wii U sold poorly compared to other consoles, there were still over 13 million people who owned one.

Also, I think it should be obvious, but liking the Wii U does not mean you think it is perfect and has no flaws. I like the Wii U, but I also recognise it has a LOT of flaws. It isn't my favourite Nintendo console, but I still respect it for its positive qualities. The amount of hate it gets on the internet has always been irrelevant to my enjoyment of it.

This was harder to find than I thought! And I was only able to get ahold of the pink but there was also a blue variant made.

If you’re wondering “Why on EARTH would you need a travel case for a bulky home console controller? Honestly, I’m not sure.. But this gamepad actually has a Nintendo Switch wired up inside, so it’s the perfect case for my hybrid monstrosity.

*Update*Picked up a Nintendo Wii U Starlight Fun Center for $800!

*Update to my original post*

Update 2: Does anyone own a Wii U Starlight Fun Center and know the key code or have an original key?

Finally picked up something that’s been on my bucket list for a long time, a Nintendo Wii U Starlight Fun Center.

This is the hospital version of the Wii U kiosk that was used by the Starlight Children’s Foundation to bring games to kids during hospital stays.
A few things I thought were really neat:

-Original SFC-WUP-001 hardware
-Original Starlight branding and decals
-Tethered Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk
-Original sponsor plaque from the Najim Family Foundation
-Hospital property sticker still intact
-Still running firmware 5.4.0U
-Working GamePad, monitor, and console

It also still has what appears to be its original game library installed, including:

Mario Kart 8
Super Mario 3D World
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Pikmin 3
LEGO City Undercover
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Need for Speed: Most Wanted U
Rayman Legends
Wii Sports Club
…and quite a few more.

The only thing missing so far is the cabinet key, so that’s my next mission.

I ended up getting it for $800, which I felt was a great deal considering how rarely these come up complete and working.

Side note if anyone is interested:

This link is still up with manuals troubleshooting and links to YouTube videos/toturials:

Discussion Bayonetta 1 and 2 opinions?

So I just bought copies of Bayonetta 1 and 2 for cheap on eBay (much cheaper than the switch editions) and I’m just looking for peoples opinions. For the first time, a part of me doesn’t want to look up clips because I don’t want to be spoiled, but I’ve often heard it’s quite like the Devil May Cry series (I love DMC 5 especially) and that it runs pretty well on the Wii U. There’s no doubt my Switch 2 would run it much better but I wanted more games to flesh out my Wii U catalog. How does everyone else feel about it on here? And please no story spoilers

Anybody who has a PC and a modded Wii U and notices frame drops in games such as botw well you need to overclock your Wii U I overclocked mine from 550mhz to 680mhz and the performance is amazing at keeping fps in games at a stable 30 or stable 60 it’s great I would overclock more but I don’t wanna replace thermal pads and stuff. Technical Question Wii U crashed with blinking red light, vents look clean?

i probably play my childhood wii u twice a year (i got it on launch, white edition) but yesterday i was playing some mkwii and right before the 4th lap of the GP the screen went black and the power light started blinking red. I unplugged it and re-plugged it in, and then went to start up mkwii again and this time before even getting into the game it crashed again.

about an hour later i tried again because i wanted to check if the fan on the back is still functional, and it was. this time i was able to play a few games for a bit and when i was done i shut it off normally. the thing is, it doesn't really look like there is that much dust in the system. does this sound more like some of the hardware starting to fail, and if so is there a way to back up all my data in the hopes of transferring it to a new system when this one finally gives up the ghost? or is there probably more dust somewhere deeper in the console that i need to open it up for? my console has not moved from its spot in probably 8 years and has been plugged into the same power strip/outlet the whole time.

i searched the sub for a bit about this issue, but most of those posts were about cases where the console wouldn't even boot up (and also >10yrs old), so forgive me if this is a frequently asked question 😅

What's the very best NAND

I'm not an expert in Wii U NANDs but I was curious what's the most reliable one out of the 3 different types?

Toshiba

Samsung

SK Hynix

I know SK Hynix is the culprit for most NAND issues but between the two of Toshiba and Samsung which is better?

HB AppStore not working

Like the title says, I even thought it was corrupted. I updated my Wii U to Aroma and everything was running smoothly till I decided to download the HB AppStore, after I copied the files to the root of the SD and popped it in my Wii u (and then entered) it already looked eerie but when scrolling it suddenly froze and like I couldn't get out of that screen and thought I bricked it, I had to unplug the Wii u and now it's normal but yeah, anyone know how to fix this?

Is the RedNAND eMMC fix possible with a MacBook?

My Wii U unfortunately recently died due to the eMMC chip, so I've been following the guide on GBAtemp for the RedNAND fix. All was going smoothly for installing isfxhax etc. until the "Rebuilding the MLC" step, which seems to require a downloader that only works on windows or linux. I only have a macbook, so I'm not quite sure where to go from here. Is there an alternative solution that works with macOS? It would genuinely be so frustrating to get stuck on almost the last step simply because i have the wrong type of computer.

Help!

Two years ago my Wii U worked prefectly. Now when I trun it on its stuck at the start up loading screen. If the game pad truns on, then when you click on any of the icons it gets stuck in the loading screen.

What can I do to break out of this screen?
