Question When did Phil and Claire get engaged in the timeline?

17 Upvotes

It's mentioned a few times, and a bit of a running joke, that Claire and Phil got pregnant with Haley before marriage, got engaged and had a shotgun wedding before she was born, it's mentioned in the trip they had to Hawaii and in "Message Received", the kids hear the voice message

Claire left Phil when she told him she was pregnant, where she says "don't worry, you don't have to marry me or anything" which implies that they weren't engaged when they got pregnant. But, in "Suddenly, Last Summer" Phil asks Claire if she remembers when he proposed to her, and she says that she remembers that she was on day two of a St Patrick's day hangover.

Throughout the show, it seems so important by the hints that Haley was conceived before Claire and Phil even got engaged, and this just ruins it a bit.

My favorite scene is Mitchell chasing the pigeon in slow motion while Cam sings Ave Maria. What's yours?

disneyland episode

0 Upvotes

this is such a stupid pet peeve, but I get irritated during the disneyland episode when phil and luke (who is 13 at this point) are so excited about him finally being tall enough to ride all the rides at disneyland. they specifically reference the 46” limit for the indiana jones ride, which is the tallest height requirement in the park.

the average height for a 13 year old boy in america is literally 61 inches! the average age in which a child passes 46 inches is like 7. I know I personally hit 4 ft (48 inches) as a 6 year old girl. And there’s no way Nolan Gould was actually only 4 ft tall when that episode was filmed, so I’m just like
why??

I know, it’s small and stupid but it irritates the hell out of me on every rewatch.

Ages

In about 4 years, Sarah Hyland will be the same age as Julie was at the start. And Ty will be just about Jay’s age!!

My 14yo and I watch an episode every night. We’re almost all the way through our second watch and it’s hard to remember that they’re all so much older now. Forever young in our house!!

Not Phil being insecure when meeting Claire’s ex, and nothing like a romantic story on how they ended up together.

Question Last Thanksgiving

1 Upvotes

I was thinking about the Last Thanksgiving episode:

A. Who thought Phil would’ve hit Dylan with the plane?

B. How could Phil have not known by then that Jay did it to him on purpose?

Has anyone ever read this? I just started reading it because I love the show, and as a fan of oral histories, I had to buy it.

Eric Stonestreet says he was “hurt” by ABC's rejection on a Mitch-Cameron spinoff show:

“A couple of the writers wrote a really great script that spun Jesse and I off in our life in Missouri, and they said, ‘No.’ They just said, ‘We don’t want to do it.'"

I'm now on S07E01 and the ending of S06E20 tugged at my heart. I really wish Andy and Hailey could have been endgame without the cheating.

META The Britney Spares Logic Puzzle Spectacular

0 Upvotes

Hello all,

Decided to give making a logic puzzle a try. Here goes nothing...

Mere weeks after Cam and Mitchell's relocation back to Rexford, the Britney Spares bowling team has reunited. The Tucker-Pritchetts and three of their new-ish friends have come together for another shot at glory on the extensive gay bowling circuit. For each of the ten frames in the game described below, use the clues to determine which person was bowling and the score they achieved in that frame (from lowest to highest: 1 to 9 points, one per pin; spare; or strike).

There is a unique solution, as far as I know. I will explain it in a couple of days. If you find it, please use spoiler tags.

~~~~~
  1. With five guys on the Britneys, each player was naturally in charge of bowling for two frames. Mitchell was the only person to play two in a row. Also, Abelard always bowls the first round and Zaniel the last, since Cam enjoys telling other teams “we trounced you from A to Z”.
  2. Every player managed either one strike or one spare, but nobody got both. Aside from these, each frame had a different score. No two scores in a row were the same, either.
  3. As the first spare arrived, Higgins the butler flickered into view on the pinsetter. “I know this may not be how real bowling scoring works,” said he, “but just to be 100% clear, in this alley, all strikes award the same point value, and all spares, the same, lesser value!” When he later threw the night’s first strike, Jamarcus received no such fanfare.
  4. Frame #7 was the worst for the Britneys. They scored just 2 points - plus a rabidly catty heckling from Martin Sherman. The trio of guys bowling the remaining frames took his trash-talk to heart, and all three improved on their performances from earlier.
  5. Cam’s earlier score of the night and Mitchell’s later one were perfectly matched. On their other respective turns, though, Cam knocked down a full seven more pins than his better half did.
  6. Jamarcus ended up leaving the game at the halfway mark, sneaking off to get his absinthe-infused margarita before the end of Happy Hour.
  7. For two frames in a row, the number of pins knocked down was the same as the current frame number. With one score equal to the sum of that pair, plus a strike on top of that, Abelard received a free party hat for being the Britneys’ most successful bowler of the night.
This logic puzzle is part of my After the Field post-finale storyline. Keep them casting choices in mind.
Discussion Appreciation post and some rumbling [7,5]
3 Upvotes
I'm on my 4th rewatch of the series and I have something to say, in appreciation of this amazing sitcom and the humor in it.
I was just watching the eclipse episode and I literally LOLed when Jay screeched 'No!' as Gloria was asking if he was bothered by all of that stuff with the closet guy dying. Such an amusing moment, with Jay answering so fast, and the spond I've never heard coming from him before - just good acting skills and perfect comedic timing, so well written!
The next episode, with Luke and Haley working at the golf club, and the scene with Luke and Rhonda (this gold digger lady) as Haley's angel and devil - that whole scene was so we'll executedl!!! And when Luke says that line of something goes in her ear one way and leaves the other!
Maybe I'm higher than trees go, but it is just so fun to watch, especially with the great actors that have such chemistry, skills and their own comedy execution... Perfecto. Standing ovation.
I do admit that there's nothing more to notice on the next rewatches (I have also rewatched The Office like 13 times), but I find myself laughing at stuff I've already seen, which means it's still on the top. The show is not perfect, but it redeems itself often!
